Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify and miniaturize the constitution of the titled reader by detecting the presence/absence, head end, and tail end of an original with a reading position sensor. CONSTITUTION:The original 11 is placed on an original platen 10, and an image sensor 15 reads a special pattern 12 to confirm the presence/absense of the original. Thereafter, the driving 17 of a roller 16 is controlled 19 to sequentially convey the originals 11. An original 11 is continuously conveyed untill the image sensor 15 reads a pattern different from the specific pattern. After the time of reading the said pattern, the image sensor 15 reads image information from each scanning line while the original 11 is conveyed stepwise. At a time when the image sensor 15 reads the special pattern again as image information, the tail end of the original 11 is detected and the reading action is ended. Thereafter, the original 11 is conveyed continuously again by the roller 16, and exhausted to a tray 18. With such constitution, a conventionally needed reading position sensor for detecting the position of an original is made unnecessary, hence the coZ:14: lens part, 13: light source part, 16: carrying roller part, 19: control circuit part, 17: driving motor part, 18: exhausting tray.

The original 31 is continuously moved to the reading position by the reading position sensor 33, stops once at this position, and thereafter the original 31 is moved step by step while the image sensor unit 36 reads image information for each scanning line. It will be run. When the reading position sensor 33 detects the edge of the document 31, the reading operation is terminated, and the document 31 is again continuously driven by the conveyance roller section 37 and discharged onto the discharge tray 39.

In order to solve the problem described in 1. "Means for Solving the Problem," the image reading device of the present invention creates a specific pattern at the image reading position, and reads and recognizes the specific pattern at the reading position using the image sensor unit. It has the following configuration. .

According to the above-described configuration, the present invention recognizes that there is no document when the image sensor section reads a specific pattern at the reading position with the image information, and recognizes that there is no document when the image information becomes a pattern different from the specific pattern. When the leading edge is detected and the pattern returns to the specific pattern again, the end of the document is detected, and the reading position sensor is removed to detect the presence or absence of the document, the leading edge, and the trailing edge.

The operation of the image reading apparatus configured as described above will be described below with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2. First, place the original 11 on the original table 10, and then
6 reads the specific pattern 12 to confirm the presence or absence of the document 11, and the control circuit section 19 drives the drive motor section 17 to sequentially drive the document 11 through the conveyance roller section 16. In this case, the original 11 passes through the image sensor section 16 side of the specific pattern 12, and the specific pattern 12 passes through the image sensor section 16 side of the specific pattern 12.
It will be hidden from view. The document 11 is continuously run until the image sensor unit 16 reads a pattern different from the specific pattern, and then the image sensor unit 15
The document 11 is moved in a stepwise manner while reading image information for each scanning line. Image sensor section 16
When the specific pattern is read as image information again, the end of the document 11 is detected, the reading operation is completed, and the document 11 is again continuously driven by the conveying roller section 16 and discharged onto the discharge tray 18.

Effects of the Invention As described above, the present invention can detect the presence or absence of a document, its leading edge, and its trailing edge by reading and recognizing the specific pattern 12 using the image sensor section 16. This eliminates the need for a reading position sensor, which simplifies the configuration of the device, and has a significant effect on lowering costs and downsizing.
