Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal display device by providing connecting terminals to segments provided to a panel substrate and common electrode to the surface on one side of a flexible substrate, bending the substrate in the midway and connecting the electrodes of the respective upper and lower substrates. CONSTITUTION:A sheet of the flexible substrate 3 is bent along the A-A' line and is positioned to the common electrode 4 and segment electrodes 5, then the electrodes are connected. The substrate 3 is soldered to a liquid crystal display panel 1 if said substrate is formed by patterning of metallic films or conductive coating compd. on a film consisting of a polyimide, etc. The substrate 3 is joined to the liquid crystal display panel by a heat-sealing conductive coating compd. if the substrate 3 is a heat sealing substrate. The output terminals 4, 5 of the substrate 3 are formed to one side face of the substrate 3, by which the man-hours for printing are reduced. The developed shape of the substrate is approximately rectangular and the blank layout efficiency is good. The thin and small-sized liquid crystal display device is thus obtd.

The input terminal portion (hunting portion in FIG. 6.7) of the 7-ray 1-ciple substrate 12.14 to the liquid crystal panel 1.9 is formed with common and segment electrodes on opposite sides of each other. For this reason, in the method of connecting to panel terminals using conductive adhesive, which requires forming terminals on both sides of the board,
The need to print conductive adhesive on both sides of the substrate increases the cost of the substrate. Furthermore, when the flexible circuit boards 12, 14 are extracted from their raw materials, the L-shaped board shape reduces the efficiency of material extraction and increases manufacturing costs.
