Image information is transmitted with the hand-driven image reading device 1 acting as the transmitting side and the copying machine main body 2 acting as the receiving side. In the image reading device 1, when the start button is pressed, the model 6 is enabled. By moving the image reading device 1, the encoder 15 generates a pulse signal as a line change signal, and this signal is modulated by the modem 6 into a predetermined modulation signal and sent to the modem 7. The modem 7 demodulates the signal from the modem 6 and uses it as an on signal for the motor 21. Every time this motor-on signal is received, the motor 21 rotates the pressure roller 203 by a certain amount. Further, the reading device 1 outputs image information read by the image sensor 13 to the modem 6 following the line change signal. Modem 6 modulates the image information and transmits it to modem 7 as a transmission carrier.

The rotation of the motor 21 is controlled by the received line change signal, and the thermal head 202 is driven by the received image information. Note that the operation of the printing unit 200 is as described above, so a description thereof will be omitted.

Furthermore, since image information can be transmitted to a remote location, copies can be made simply by carrying a hand-driven image reading device, increasing mobility.
