Abstract

PURPOSE:To reinforce the connection of optical fibers without twisting the fibers by fitting a twist preventing device to a fusing machine after fusing the optical fiber cores to clamp the cores so as not to rotate the cores round respective axes and then removing the device from the fusing machine. CONSTITUTION:After fusion splicing the optical fiber cores 10, the twist preventing device 40 is set up on stands 54 for a splicing device body 16. Then, the cores 10 are clamped down on the outsides of respective rotary mechanisms 24 by clamping means 56 and then rotary clamps 29 are opened. After the end of screening, fiber clamps 20 and sheath clamps 22 are opened. Since the rotary mechanisms 24 are inclined in the front down direction, the spliced optical fiber core 10 is formed like a V-shape having a large aperture, and when the cores 10 are removed from the device 40, a sag is generated. Therefore, the left and right halves 43, 44 of an arm 42 are slightly opened to remove the sag. Then, the whole device 40 is removed from the body 16 while clamping the cores 10. Then, the spliced part is reinforced without twisting the cores.
