Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the lubrication performance by introducing a breezer passage around the crankshaft on the upper bearing of a vertical engine so as to allow the breezer air stream to flow into said flow passage and feeding the lubricating oil separated from said air stream into the upper bearing from the upper part. CONSTITUTION:A through-hole 5 which communicates to the upper part of an upper bearing 3 is formed on a crankcase 2, and the lubricating oil projected from a lower lubricating oil sump by an oil slinger is received through the through-hole 5, thus an upper bearing 3 is lubricated. An air-flow is generated from a crank chamber 1 to the outside after passing through the breezer passage, being caused by the reciprocative movement of the piston of an engine. The oil mist in the crank chamber is transported by said air stream, forced to rush into an annular space, after passing through the through-hole 5, collide with the upper extension part 4b of a crankshaft and the inner wall of a sleeve 6, and adhere onto inner wall. Said oil flows down in the form of oil droplets, which lubricate the upper bearing 3.

The crankshaft is supported by the lower bearing of the oil pan and the upper bearing of the crankcase, and an oil slinger that is linked to the crankshaft splashes up the lubricating oil in the oil pan, and the splash mechanism provides internal lubrication to various parts around the crank chamber. I try to do it. (U.S. Patent No. 266932 and U.S. Patent No. 3144097
(Refer to No.) (Problem to be Solved by the Invention) In the above-mentioned vertical engine, the upper bearing of the crankshaft is located at a high position away from the lubricating oil in the oil pan, so internal lubrication by the splash mechanism is required. When performing this, if the splash condition is weak due to unstable factors such as oil level fluctuations in the oil pan or engine operation in a tilted position,
There were problems such as insufficient lubrication (durability, seizure), oil leaking into the combustion chamber in strong cases, and oil spraying from the breather.

To solve this problem, ball bearings have been conventionally used for the upper and lower bearings, but this tends to increase costs and noise, and is also insufficient as a countermeasure when lubrication conditions deteriorate.

The present invention has been made in order to solve the above-mentioned problems. The present invention has been made to solve the above-mentioned problems by guiding a breather passage around the crankshaft at the upper part of the upper bearing of the crankshaft to prevent a considerable amount of oil splash and oil mist from the crank chamber. The purpose of this is to supply the lubricating oil separated from the airflow to the upper bearing through the breather airflow containing the airflow, thereby improving the lubricity of the upper bearing.

(Means for Solving the Problems) In order to achieve the above-mentioned object, the gist of the present invention is to form an annular space around the upper extension of the crankshaft above the upper bearing of the crankshaft of a vertical engine, The lubrication mechanism for a vertical engine is characterized in that the annular space and the crank chamber are communicated through a through hole, and the annular space is communicated with a breather passage comprising a check valve, a valve spring chamber, etc.

(Function) With the present invention configured as described above, the breather airflow from the crank chamber is first introduced into the annular space formed around the upper extending circumference of the crankshaft, where it is centrifuged as the crankshaft rotates. This action separates the oil mist contained in the breather airflow and lubricates the upper bearing of the crankshaft.

In this embodiment, the sleeve 6 is the crankcase 2.
It is formed integrally with an upper cover 9 which is hermetically coupled with a gasket 8 inserted therein, and is tightly fitted into an enlarged diameter arrow 10 on the upper bearing 3, and is used as an oil holding space.
Further, the portion where the crankshaft upwardly extending portion 4b passes through the upper cover 9 is sealed by a seal ring 11, thereby making the annular space 7 airtight.

The subsequent part of this breather passage includes a lower opening provided in the compartment 13 that communicates with a lower valve chamber 2a formed in the crankcase 2 via a check valve 15, and a through hole 17 provided in the lower valve chamber 2a. In the above configuration, as the piston of the engine reciprocates, an airflow passing through the breather passage from the crank chamber 1 to the outside is generated as shown by the dotted arrow B, and this airflow causes oil mist to flow from the crank chamber 1 to the breather outlet. When entering the annular space 7 through the through hole 5, as the crankshaft 4 rotates, it collides with and adheres to the upper crankshaft extension 4b and the inner wall of the sleeve 6, and these oil droplets flow down to the upper bearing. This is used for lubrication in step 3.

(Effects) As described above, according to the present invention, an annular space that forms a breather passage is formed around the upper extension of the crankshaft above the upper bearing of the crankshaft, and within this annular space, centrifugation occurs as the crankshaft rotates. The separation action separates the oil mist contained in the breather airflow and lubricates the upper bearing of the crankshaft, so even when the oil level in the oil pan of a vertical engine fluctuates or the engine is operated in a tilted position, the upper bearing is always lubricated. Since lubricating oil is supplied to the bearing, it does not run out of oil, and has the effect of providing an advantage in terms of lubrication function.
