Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a gap between images from being generated when printing a vertically enlarged character or figure through a plurality of line feeds and enable high-quality printing, by feeding a paper by an amount equal to the sum of a standard line feed quantity and a correction line feed quantity when a combined line feeding is designated at the time of line feeding. CONSTITUTION:When a combined line feeding is required for a vertically enlarged character or figure (e.g., graph) contained in date inputted from a host device and stored in a RAM, a printing-controlling and combined line feed detecting part 21 detects the requirement. This information is sent to a line feed controlling part 22, a correction value designated by a line feed correction switch 7 is read, a calculating part 22a modifies a line feed quantity to a line feed quantity increased by the correction value, and the correction value is accumulated in a line feed correction accumulating counter 23. The corrected line feed quantity is sent from the line feed controlling part to a driver 9, and the driver 9 is driven to operate a line-feed motor 10.

Conventionally, characters or graphics are printed using a serial printer that uses a print head that has printing elements with multiple dots in the vertical direction (for example, 24 dots), and characters or graphics that are longer in the vertical direction than the multiple dots at the bottom are printed by line breaks. connection,
It may be printed in multiple batches. For example, in the first printing of a character and 9 figures that require 2N dots in the vertical direction, after printing the upper half N dots, a line feed for N dots is performed, and the lower half N dots are printed on the next line.

That is, the print control and connection line feed detection unit 21 detects when a connection line feed is required for vertically enlarged characters or figures such as graphs among data input from the host device and stored in the RAM. Send this information to the line feed control unit 22, read the correction value (0 to 6) specified by ■ and ■ of the line feed correction switch 7, and change this line feed to a larger line feed amount by the correction constant by the calculation unit 22α. At the same time, this correction value is accumulated in the line feed correction accumulation counter 23. This cumulative value is referenced to set it at the normal specified position at the end of vertically enlarged characters or figures and at the next line break.

As shown in the figure, the conditions that lead to a connecting line feed are that the line has been printed, that a line has been printed after printing, and that the line feed pitch is 36 pitches or less; otherwise, there is no connecting line feed. Then, the correction is continued during the connecting line feed, and if it is not a connecting line feed, the amount accumulated in the counter 23 is subtracted by the specified line feed pitch, and after performing the line feed operation, the counter 23 is cleared and the process ends.

As explained above, according to the present invention, when printing a predetermined character or figure by connecting lines, a means for correcting the amount of line feed is provided so that no gap occurs between the lines, and furthermore, the correction amount is corrected. A line feed correction cumulative counter is provided. This allows you to set the next line break after the end of these characters or figures at the specified line feed position without leaving any gaps when printing vertically enlarged characters or figures with multiple line breaks. This makes it possible to print with good quality overall.
