Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure the thickness of recording paper accurately while the paper is fed by driving a paper-feed roller with a servomotor and detecting a speed change of the servomotor taking place when the recording paper enters the paper-feed roller. CONSTITUTION:When the recording paper is fed from a paper-feed cassette of a paper-feed device and fed between the 1st and the 2nd rollers 2 and 3 of the paper-feed roller 1, a rotating speed, namely, the number of revolutions of a motor 6 is changed in a moment. When it is detected with a speed detecting part 10 that the number of revolutions of the motor 6 is decreased to N0 when the recording paper is fed into the paper-feed roller 1, a signal e0 corresponding to the actual number N0 of revolutions is inputted to a paper thickness arithmetic part 11 constituting the 2nd control system to measure the thickness of the recording paper. In this way, the thickness of the recording paper can be measured accurately while the paper is fed without deteriorating the paper-feed performance as the paper-feed device.

For example, the method for measuring the thickness of recording paper described in JP-A-54-96046 uses a paper feeding device that has a pair of paper feeding rollers made of conductive rollers covered with an insulating film. By connecting a constant voltage power source including a resistor to the paper feed roller in series, the change in capacitance between the paper feed rollers that occurs when recording paper is fed between the paper feed rollers can be measured by connecting the resistor to the front and back. The paper thickness of the recording paper is measured by detecting the change in the potential difference between the two. In other words, the paper thickness is measured based on the dielectric constant of the recording paper, and can be measured appropriately, but the paper feed roller must be made special, so There are problems in that paper slips are likely to occur, it is difficult to feed paper appropriately, and the cost is high. Furthermore, the method for measuring the thickness of recording paper described in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 57-64270 uses a paper feeding device having a pair of paper feeding rollers consisting of rigid rollers, and the recording paper is placed between the paper feeding rollers. The paper thickness of the recording paper can be determined by detecting the amount of change in the gap between the paper feed rollers that occurs when the paper is fed into the paper as the amount of change in the amount of light transmitted through the gap, or by detecting the amount of displacement due to the vertical movement of the paper feed roller. However, since the amount of change in each is minute, it is difficult to accurately measure the amount of eccentricity of the paper feed roller due to the influence of errors such as mounting errors, and it is difficult to accurately measure the amount of eccentricity of the paper feed roller. In order to achieve this, there are problems such as the need to increase the precision of the paper feed roller and the precision of its installation.0 As mentioned above, the conventional paper thickness measurement method for recording paper has various problems and is not practical. It is difficult to say that it is sufficient.

The apparatus shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 is constructed as described above, and the thickness of recording paper during paper feeding is measured as follows. The recording paper is placed in the paper feed cassette of the paper feed device (not shown)
When the paper is fed from the paper feed roller 1 and sent between the first and second rollers 2.3 of the paper feed roller 1, the rotation speed, that is, the number of rotations of the motor 6 changes instantaneously. That is, when there is no load fluctuation on the paper feed roller 1, the motor 6 is rotated at the set rotation speed NB set in the speed setting section 7, but when the recording paper is fed into the paper feed roller 1, In this case, a load fluctuation occurs instantaneously and the motor rotates at the actual rotation speed N0, which is lower than the set rotation speed N8.

Is the rotation speed of motor 6 the first rule? It is controlled to be constant by the IJ system, and when the actual rotational speed decreases to N0 as described above, the actual rotational speed N is detected by the speed detection unit IO.

K is converted into a corresponding signal e0, and the signal e. and a signal e11 corresponding to the set rotational speed N8 are compared by the comparison/discrimination section 8, and the motor drive section 9 is operated so that the signal (es-eo) which is the comparison result becomes O. Therefore, even if the rotational speed of the motor 6 decreases when the recording paper is fed into the paper feed roller IK, it is instantaneous, and from then on the motor 6 rotates at the set rotational speed NB, so the recording paper is fed at the set speed. Ru. On the other hand, when the speed detection unit 10 detects that the rotation speed of the motor 6 has decreased to No when the recording paper is fed into the paper feed roller 1, a signal e corresponding to the actual rotation speed No. is generated.

is output to the paper thickness calculating section 11 constituting the second control system, and the paper thickness of the recording paper is measured. That is, standard values corresponding to various paper thicknesses are set in the paper thickness calculation section 11.
By comparing and calculating the signal e0 with the reference value, the thickness of the recording paper being fed is measured. Further, a signal corresponding to the paper thickness of the recording paper calculated in the paper thickness calculation unit 11 is output to the control unit 12 of the transfer device, and the transfer device 13 is configured to perform transfer conditions corresponding to the paper thickness of the recording paper, such as a discharge power source. The current is set to 1.

As described above, in this embodiment, a servo motor is used as the drive means for the paper feed roller, and the thickness of the recording paper is measured using a signal from the control device of the servo motor. It is possible to accurately measure the thickness of recording paper. Furthermore, since the paper feed roller is always rotated at a constant speed, the recording paper can be fed reliably.
