Abstract

PURPOSE:To surely prevent the intrusion of water and to obtain a juncture which is stable for a long period of time by inserting ferrules for gripping and fixing optical fiber cords which are provided with a springing property via springs into both housings and screwing ferrule retaining members for positioning the ferrules to the apertures at the front ends of both housings. CONSTITUTION:Rubber caps 16, 33, housings 1, 18 and springs 8, 25 are preliminarily inserted respectively successively onto both optical fiber cords to be connected. The ferrules 9, 26 are put onto the terminal parts of the optical fiber cords and are caulked. The preliminarily inserted springs 8, 25 and housings 1, 18 are pulled back onto the ferrules 9, 26 and the ferrule retaining members 13, 30 are respectively screwed into the screw holes 5, 22 of the housings 1, 18 and after the positions of the ferrules 9, 26 are adjusted, the front ends of both housings 1, 18 are fitted and detained to each other. The optical fiber cords are thereby connected quickly and surely; in addition, both housings 1, 18 are water-tightly fitted and detained to each other. The rubber caps 16, 33 can be put on the terminal parts of the housings 1, 18.

With the connector of the present invention configured as described above, 7
In order to connect a plastic optical fiber hood made of plastic, a rubber cap 16.
33. The housing 1.18 and the spring 8.25 are inserted in sequence, and then the ferrule 9.26 is placed over the end of the optical plastic fiber cord and swaged, and the excess light protruding from the tip of the ferrule 9.26 is removed. After cutting the plastic 7-eyeper and finishing the cut surface with a mirror finish using a heat welding machine, the spring 8.25 and housing 1.18, which had been inserted in advance over the optical plastic fiber cord, are respectively attached onto the ferrule 9.26. 1, adjust the position of the ferrule 9.26 by screwing the ferrule pushing member 13.3o into the screw hole 5.2g of the housing 1.18, and then insert the male By fitting the tip of the female housing 18 into the fitting hole 4 of the mold housing 1 and fitting and locking the locking arm of the female housing 18 with the locking protrusion a of the male housing 1. ,
The optical plastic fibers exposed at the end surfaces of the ferrules 9.26 built into both housings 1.18 are completely press-connected to each other. Finally, rubber caps 16.33 are placed over the ends of both housings 1.18 and over the optical plastic fiber hoods. In the above embodiments, an optical plastic fiber cord in which the fibers are made of plastic was used, but even if the fibers are glass fibers made of quartz, for example, they can be connected in the same way as with the optical plastic fiber hood. o4 (Effects of the present invention) According to the present invention, as described above, the rubber cap 16.33, the housing '1.18, and the spring 8.25 are installed in advance on both optical fiber hoods to be connected. Insert the ferrule 9 in sequence and place the ferrule 9 on the terminal part of the optical fiber cord.
! ! 6 and swage it, then attach the spring 8.25 and housing 1.18 that were inserted in advance to the ferrule 9.2.
6 and screw hole 5.2 in housing 1.18.
After adjusting the position of the ferrules 9 and 26 by screwing the ferrule push members 13 and 30 into each of the housings 1 and 2,
.. Not only can the optical fiber hood be quickly and reliably connected by an extremely simple one-touch operation of simply fitting and locking the ends of the housings 1 and 18 together, but also the housings 1 and 18 can be fitted and locked in a watertight manner. Since the end portions of both housings 1.18 are covered with rubber caps 16.33, it is possible to reliably prevent water from entering from the axial and radial directions, and a reading section that is stable over time can be obtained. It has excellent advantages such as:
