Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance quality of synthesizing characters, by providing a character pattern generating part with character patterns to be synthesized according to a back space code, and obtaining from a combination table a character to be synthesized according to the back space code. CONSTITUTION:Data sent from a host device are received by an interface part 1, and when a piece of the data is a back space code, a printer-controlling part 2 checks whether a combination table 4 contains a combination of the character preceding the back space code with the character following the back space code. When the combination (synthesized character) is contained in the table 4, it is taken out, a pattern corresponding to the relevant synthesized character code is taken out from a character pattern generating part 5, and is outputted to a printing mechanism part 3. As a result, for example, each of A (capital) and (a) (small letter) can be umlauted, with the umlaut at a position suitable for the character umlauted. When the combination in problem is not contained in the table 4, the OR of a pattern for the character preceding the back space code with a pattern for the character following the back space code is outputted to the printing mechanism part 3.
