Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the sharpness of printed characters during low-temperature time by preheating a ribbon to a specific temperature as a whole. CONSTITUTION:A medium 7 to which an ink is transferred and a ribbon 4 are pressed against a platen 8 by means of a printing head. A heater 1 preheats the ribbon 4 to be sent in front of the printing head to a proper temperature. At the same time, the printing head begins to move to right by another transfer means. When a movement speed has reached an appropriate level, a printing electrode for energization 6 is selectively turned ON according to necessity, entering the stage of printing action to transfer the ink on the surface of the ribbon 4 to the medium 7. After the termination of the printing action, the heating of the heater 1 stops and the movement of the printing head by another carrying means also ceases.

The prior art will be explained using FIG. 2.The print head of a zero current transfer printer has a large number of electrodes arranged to supply electricity to the ribbon, and when a specific electrode 15 of the print head is energized, the current flows. The resistive conduction W of the ribbon 17 by
! Part A of i14 generates heat. Due to the heat generated in part A, part B of the ink layer 12 in the vicinity thereof melts and peels off, and is transferred to the medium 11 . The current passes through the conductive layer 13 with very low resistance,
It is absorbed into the return electrode 16. Return electrode 16 from electrode 15
The current flow path up to is indicated by the arrow in FIG.

As mentioned above, the part of the ribbon that generates heat due to the energization from the electrodes of the conventional print head is localized, so when the temperature of the entire ribbon is low, or when printing minute dots by energizing a very small number of electrodes, the energization may not be possible. The heat generated by this method diffuses to the low-temperature area around the heat generating point, and the required melting temperature of the ink is not reached. Therefore, there is a drawback that the ink is difficult to transfer to the medium.

Next, its operation will be explained. First, the medium 7 to which the ink is to be transferred and the ribbon 4 are pressed against the platen 8 by the present print head, and the heater 1 preheats the ribbon 4 fed to the front of the print head to an appropriate temperature. At the same time, the main print head starts moving rightward by another conveyance means. As explained above, the present invention preliminarily heats the ribbon with a heater to bring the entire ribbon to a specific temperature.
Since the ribbon is energized via the energizing printing electrode, the local heat generation of the ribbon is prevented from spreading to the surrounding area, making it easier to melt the ink coated on the surface of the ribbon. can be easily transferred to
This has the effect of improving the clarity of printed characters at low temperatures.
