Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a phosphate glass having sufficiently high, stable and reliable water-resistance, by adding a specific amount of an Sc compound to a phosphate glass. CONSTITUTION:The titled glass can be produced by adding 0.5-20wt% Sc compound (in terms of Sc2O3) to a phosphate glass. There is no particular restriction in the kind of the Sc compound to be added to the glass provided that the compound forms an oxide in the phosphate glass and elemental Sc, oxide, nitrate, etc., meet the purpose. A glass having sufficiently high, stable and reliable water-resistance can be produced by the addition of the Sc compound.

The amount of the Sa compound to be added depends on the composition of the phosphate glass to be added, but the effect of high water resistance becomes noticeable at 0.5 to 20 weight in terms of 80203. In addition, higher water resistance can be stably obtained over a long period of time than when F-A1g03 or B2O3 is added. Added amount is 0
