Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to arbitrarily reduce the size of a printing character, by delaying the signal applied to a printing head corresponding to the angle-of-inclination information from an inclination control means and arbitrarily inclining the printing head. CONSTITUTION:A printing head 1 inclined by an angle theta of inclination to a vertical direction performs printing while moving to the direction shown by an arrow 39 and the angle theta of inclination is fed back to a delay circuit 30 by a detection circuit 20. At first, a driving signal 29 is applied to an element 2 and a driving signal 28 printing a printing dot 11 is delayed by the delay circuit 30 to be converted to a signal 38 which is, in turn, applied to an element 3 to print a printing dot 11. When the angle theta of inclination is set to zero, feedback quantity comes to zero and, therefore, driving signals 21-28 are printed without being delayed to obtain a usual printing character. When the angle theta of inclination is made large, feedback quantity also becomes large and, therefore, the delay of the driving signals 21-28 becomes large and the reduction ratio in the size of the printing character becomes high.

In addition, as shown in Figure 2, even if the character points are different, the printing dot density remains the same between character dots 41 that do not shrink and character dots 42 that do shrink, and the smaller the characters become, the more strange it becomes to read. There was a drawback. Note that 1 indicates a print head, which is drawn in correspondence with print character dots 41 and 42.

The drive signal 28 applied to the element 3 to print the print dot 11 is delayed by a delay circuit 30 and applied as a signal 38 to the element 3 to print the print dot 12.

If the inclination angle θ is set to zero, the feedback amount becomes zero, so the drive signals 21 to 28 are printed without being delayed, and normal printed characters (printed characters that are not reduced) are printed. Furthermore, when the inclination angle θ is increased, the amount of feedback also becomes larger, so the delay of the drive signals 21 to 28 becomes larger, and the reduction rate of printed characters becomes higher.

Since printing is performed in this manner, the printed characters are reduced in size in accordance with the tilt angle θ. Therefore, by changing the inclination angle θ, printed characters can be arbitrarily reduced in size. Furthermore, since the printed characters are reduced without reducing the number of printed dots that make up the printed characters, the printing density is increased, and even if the characters are reduced in size, they are easy to read and can be read clearly.

FIGS. 3(a) and 3(b) are diagrams illustrating the operation of the print head 1 according to an embodiment of the present invention. When printing normal characters, the inclination angle θ is 0° as shown in FIG. Printing is performed using the ink ribbon 46. When a reduced print character is required, as shown in FIG. 3(b), the inclination angle information θ of 8 centimeters for reduction is inputted to the drive control circuit 45 by driving the solenoid 44, and the drive control circuit 45 controls the print head 1. The print head 1 is tilted by an angle of inclination θ about the fulcrum 43 of the paper 4 on the platen 48.
7, printing is performed using the ink ribbon 46. When the reduction printing is completed, the solenoid 44 is released by the drive control circuit 45, the print head 1 becomes vertical, and normal printing is resumed.

By tilting the print head 1 and printing in this way, reduced-print characters at any point can be obtained.
Since there is no need to pre-store small point character information in the storage memory, it is not limited by 8 storage memories.
