Claims

A device for reading an identification mark provided on the ink ribbon of an ink ribbon cassette that is detachably attached to a printer main body and includes a ribbon guide for guiding the running of the ink ribbon, wherein the identification mark of the ink ribbon is included in the ribbon guide. A light-transmitting window is formed in a portion where the portion provided with the light-transmitting window contacts, and light incident on one end of the ribbon guide in the axial direction or from the light-transmitting window is directed toward the light-transmitting window or one end. A light guide member for emitting light is provided, and light is projected to one of a position facing the transparent window and a position facing one end of the ribbon guide when the ink ribbon cassette is attached to the printer main body. An identification mark reading device for an ink ribbon, characterized in that a light receiving member is provided at the other position.
