本発明は、感熱画像記録に使用されるサーマルプリンタ
ーに関し、特に予熱手段を設けたサーマルプリンターに

る。その中で最も有力な方法がサーマルプリンターを使
用する感熱画像記録方式であり、このサーマルプリンタ
ーは、基本的には、主走査方向に一列に並んだ多数の抵
抗体ドツト群と各ドツトに通電するための一対の電極群
とからなるサーマルヘッド(1)と該ドツト群を画像信
号に基ずいて選択的に通電発熱させるための駆動回路(
2)とから出来ている。そして、サーマルヘッドに感熱
記録紙(感熱発色式のものだけでなく、例えば受像シー
トと熱転写性インキシートとを重ねたものも含まれる)
を押しあて、入力する画像信号に基ずいてドツトを選択
的に通電発熱させ、この熱によって記録紙上に1行分の
画素を印字し、次いで記録紙を1行分移動させ、以下、
順次、次の行の画像信号に基すいて同様に印字、移動を
繰り返し、それにより1つの2次元画像を完成するので

以上の通り、本発明では駆動回路からの廃熱を利用して
感熱記録紙を予熱するので、独立の予熱源を節約でき、
そのため消費電力が少なぐて済み、また駆動回路の放熱
も促進される。なお、記録紙が予熱されることで(ドツ
トへの通電時間を短かぐできることから)プリント速度
が速(なり、印加電力も少なくて済むことになる。他方
、インキシートも予熱されることで、インキシートのペ
ースとしてコンデンサー紙を使用した場合のシワ防止も
