Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a fixing mechanism as well as a seal of a dust cover which reduce the width of a magnetic disk device with simple constitution and without imparing a head positioning error, by using two parts to form a seal groove. CONSTITUTION:A seal groove is formed with a base 3 to which a spindle 1 and a carriage 2 are fixed and a bracket 9 having an L-shaped section at the base outer circumference. Then silicone rubber is supplied into the seal groove before a cover 6 is attached. This rubber is turned into an elastic matter and functions as a seal member. Therefore no stress if produced at a seal part and the high size accuracy is not required to the cover 6 nor the base 3. Furthermore, a stud 10 is put close to the inner surface of the cover 6 and serves as a guide. In such a way, the number of assembling processes can be decreased for a magnetic disk device.

入を防いでいた・ところがこの様な装置においては、ベ
ース3はアルξ鋳物で作られることが多く、複雑な形状
を持つシール溝4はベース6の外周部に鋳物で一体に形
成されている。この様な構造の為、装置の巾寸法が大き
くなってしまう欠点がめる。磁気ディスク装置は小形で
大容量化が進んでおり、%に19インチラック等の規定
の収納ラックへ入れる用途を目的としたディスク装置で
は、広いシール構造の為デ・rスフ円板の径をその分小
さクシ、記憶容量が低下する欠点があった。
