Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a silicone rubber roller with mirror-smooth outer peripheral surface excellent in releasability and consequently eliminating the necessity for applying surface grinding operation by a method wherein liquid addition-reaction type silicone rubber is injected between a hollow cylindrical mold, the inner peripheral surface of which is finished mirror- smooth and which is installed in the cavity of a heating mold. CONSTITUTION:A hollow cylindrical mold 3, the outer diameter of which is nearly equal to the inner diameter of the cavity 2 of a heating mold 1 and the inner peripheral surface of which is mirror-finished by hard chrome plating or the like, is installed in the cavity 2 of the heating mold 1. Firstly, after the mold 1 is preheated at the predetermined temperature, liquid silicone rubber is injected with an injection molding machine through the runners 7 in the mold 1, injection passages 6 so as to fill gaps, each of which is formed between the hollow cylindrical mold 3 and a roller core bar 4. Secondly, after the silicone rubber injection and filled in the mold 1 is hardened in the mold 1 held at the predetermined temperature, the cylindrical mold 3 is taken out of the mold 1 and cooled down to a temperature, at which the silicone rubber roller within the cylindrical mold 3 can easily be drawn out of the cylindrical mold due to the difference between the thermal expansion coefficients of the silicone rubber and of the metal of the mold 3, in order to take the molded silicone rubber roller out of the mold 3.

These silicone rubber rollers are used to ensure releasability from toner and convey paper or film in the correct direction.
It is required that the surface be smooth and the thickness of the coating be uniform, and conventionally the roller core metal is coated with silicone rubber by press molding or casting, and then the surface is finished by grinding.

However, for rollers that are formed and finished in this way, the grinding process, including the removal of the silicone rubber from the end of the roller core metal, takes time and effort, increasing the cost. Since the reinforcing filler is exposed on the surface and the surface becomes rough due to the formation of fine irregularities, there is a drawback that the releasability from the toner is significantly reduced.

Also, one of the pair of caps 5 is attached to the hollow cylindrical mold 3.
.. A silicone rubber injection passage 6 is formed at the fitting portion between the cap 5 and the hollow cylindrical mold 3. Both ends of the injection injection path 6 are connected to runners 7 provided in the heating mold 1. Furthermore, the outer diameter of the cap 5 is slightly smaller than the inner diameter of the capacitance 2 of the heating mold 1, and a gap of about 1 u is formed between the outer peripheral surface of the cap 5 and the inner peripheral surface of the heating mold 1. ing.

Next, after holding the heating mold 1 at a predetermined temperature to cure the injected silicone rubber, the hollow cylindrical mold 3 is taken out from the heating mold 1, and the heat between the silicone rubber and the bottom of the mold is removed. It is cooled until the internal silicone rubber roller can be easily removed from the hollow cylindrical mold 3 due to the difference in expansion coefficient, and the bale and molded silicone rubber roller are taken out.

Specifically, an inner diameter of 40 u preheated to a temperature of 150 °C
A heating mold having a cylindrical cavity is used, and a roller core metal with a diameter of 25+m is held concentrically inside this cavity, and caps with a maximum outer diameter of 39 x m are fitted at both ends.゜A hollow cylindrical mold of 6 cm was installed, and liquid addition reaction type silicone rubber was injected and filled into the gap between the hollow cylindrical mold and the roller core metal using a conventional method, and heated at a temperature of 150°C. After hardening, the outer diameter was 3
A silicone rubber roller with a diameter of 1.1 mm was obtained, and when it was further heat-treated, it had an outer diameter of 31 mm. A silicone rubber roller was obtained. The cylindricity, coaxiality, and runout of this roller are all within an error of ±0.03n, and the error range (± 0.13

As shown in the third factor, by raising the mold joint surface 10 of the lower heating mold 8 opposite to the runner 9 into a semi-cylindrical shape with approximately the same diameter as the cavity 11. ,
A silicone rubber roller with good characteristics without air voids in the rubber coating layer can be injection molded.

That is, when the heating mold 8 having such a structure is used, air that tends to remain in the upper part of the cavity 11 on the opposite side from the silicone rubber injection port 12 is released from the semi-cylindrical upper and lower mold joining surfaces 10 to the outside. Since it is discharged to the outside together with the silicone rubber that flows out, the generation of voids can be suppressed.
