するものである。

従来のこの種の磁性流体シールは第1図に示す
ように、ハウジング1の可動ロツド2を貫通させ
るべき部分に穿設した穴に、完全な円筒状あるい
は正多角形等のおおむね円筒状の永久磁石3と、
この永久磁石3を両側から挾着し、永久磁石3の
内径より小さい内径を有する円環状ヨーク4a,
4bを装着し、これらヨーク4a,4bとの間は
接着剤等によつて気密となし、円環状ヨーク4
a,4bの内周と微小な隙間を保つて鋼などの強
磁性体よりなる可動ロツド2を挿入し、磁石3→
ヨーク4a→可動ロツド2→ヨーク4b→磁石3
のように磁気回路を形成させ、可動ロツド2とヨ
ーク4a,4b間の微小な隙間に充填した磁性流
体5をこの隙間内に保持させることにより可動ロ
ツド2とヨーク4a,4bとの微小隙間を完全に
密封するようにしたものである。磁性流体は溶媒
中に磁性粉を懸濁させたコロイド溶液であるた
め、長期間の使用で溶液が蒸発してシール性が劣
化する。そこでこれを防ぐため磁石3の内周とヨ
ーク4a,4bの側面との間に形成した空間に、
磁性流体を含浸させた補給用磁性流体保持部材と
しての含浸材6を配設して自己補給形としてい
る。その含浸材6としては、多孔質焼結金属、多
孔質高分子材、フエルトなどが用いられていた。
しかしながら多孔性焼結金属は切削が容易ではな
く、組立の際ヨーク4a,4bと接着固定しなけ
ればならなく加工性、組立性が悪く、多孔質高分
子材は使用中次第に膨潤するので、長期間一定形
状寸法を保つことができず、可動ロツドに接触す
ることがあり、またフエルトも同様使用中膨潤
し、更にその繊維が分離して周囲に飛散して汚染
するなどの欠点があつた。他方このような含浸材
を用いた自己補給形とする代りに磁性流体を外部
から補給するようにしたものもあるが、構造が複
雑であり製作費が嵩み、その上定期点検を要する
等の欠点があつた。

周壁に押圧し、その位置に固定する。このように
磁性流体含有用部材13および帯状弾性部材14
を丸めるように装入すればよいので、組立が極め
て容易である。磁石部材11の内周壁と帯状弾性
部材14との間に磁性流体(図示せず)が充填さ
れる。磁性流体は磁性流体含有用部材13により
形成する空所内に滲み込んで滞留される。すなわ
ち磁性流体含有用部材13が磁性流体を保持する
作用をもつことになる。
