Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase wire drawing speed and to improve productivity of light transmitting line by recoating melt-drawn glass fiber with a liquid resin compsn. using a felt pad, then coating regularly liq. resin compsn. regularly by passing the glass fiber through a liq. tank. CONSTITUTION:Light transmitting glass fiber 11 melt-drawn from a parent material 10 is passed through a felt pad 16 immediately fter drawing to precoat a liquid resin compsn. contained in the pad. Then, the precoated glass fiber 11 is passed through a liquid tank 12 to execute regular coating with the liquid resin compsn. 13 contained in the liquid tank 12. In this stage, it is preferred that the liquid resin compsn. for the precoating and regular coating is a same one. Further, the glass fiber 11 is passed through an electric furnace 14 to bake the coated resin compsn, then the fiber 11 is wound by a reel 15. Thus, the wettability of the surface of the glass fiber 11 is improved, and the coating film comprising the resin compsn. is formed securely permitting preparation of light transmitting line at high wire drawing speed.

In this method, immediately after the optical transmission glass fiber 21 is melt-spun from a base material 20, a liquid resin composition 23 is applied through a liquid tank 22 before being wound onto a reel, and then heated and baked in an electric furnace 24. , and then wound onto a reel 25.

In such a method, the coating and baking of the resin composition is extremely simple, but when the drawing speed during melt spinning is increased, the resin composition 33 in the liquid 132 forms a pattern as shown in FIG. An "ant hell" phenomenon occurs, and furthermore, the liquid resin composition 33 is not applied at all to the surface of the glass fiber 31 for display and feeding.

[Objective and Summary of the Invention] In view of the above circumstances, the present invention aims to provide a practical method for manufacturing an optical transmission line that solves the problems of the prior art. The liquid resin composition is pre-applied using a felt pad before the process to improve wetting of the glass fiber surface, and as a result, a coating film of the resin composition can be reliably formed even when the drawing speed is increased. be.

The shape of the liquid tank 12 is not particularly limited, but a pot-like type with a die (for example, diameter 0.3 s) at the outlet is practical6, and the liquid tank 12 is placed on the surface of the optical transmission glass fiber 11. It serves not only to apply the resin composition but also to remove excess liquid resin composition.

The wettability during the main application will be better if the liquid resin composition pre-applied by a felt pad and the liquid resin composition applied by passing through a liquid tank are of the same type.)
Therefore, the significance of providing preliminary coating increases.

[Effects of the Invention] According to the manufacturing method of the present invention, the liquid resin composition is pre-coated using a felt pad, so the wettability of the optical transmission glass fiber surface during the main coating is good, and the drawing speed can be increased. Even if the speed increases, a coating film of the resin composition can be reliably formed.
