Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a photogravure process roll ensuring the fitting of an end plate to a cylinder and being light in weight, by cutting off the opposite end portions of the cylinder made of an aluminum alloy so as to form end plate receiving portions therein. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder 1 is formed of an extruded form material of an Al-Mg-Si aluminum alloy which has an outer wall 1a, an inner wall 1b and radial joint walls 1c joining these two walls. The respective opposite end portions of the inner wall 1b and the joint walls 1c are cut off to form end plate receiving portions 4 therein. End plates 3 with tapered holes 2 for joining a rotary shaft are received thereby and fixed on the inner surfaces of the opposite ends of the outer wall 1a. The weight of this process roll is about 1/3 of an iron one, and thus an operation of replacing the roll can be performed by one person. Moreover the cylinder is excellent in the adhesion to a copper plating layer and thus quite free from corrosion. Furthermore, the end plates 3 can be positioned easily with respect to the cylinder 1.

Prior Art and Its Problems Conventional plate-making rolls for gravure printing are made of steel, and the roll itself is very heavy. As a result, there were several problems as follows. Many types of rolls of this type are available with different diameters and/or lengths depending on the size of the printing target, and the required rolls are mounted on a stand and used, so the rolls are constantly being used. It was necessary to carry out replacement work, but this work could not be done by one person, which was inconvenient. Furthermore, the frame itself must be sturdy because it must support the heavy rolls, so it has to be expensive. Furthermore, since the rolls are heavy and have a large inertia, it is not easy to control the printing speed.

The purpose of this invention is to reduce the weight of the gravure to solve the above-mentioned problems, and to provide excellent adhesion to the copper plating layer formed on the surface, as well as to ensure the attachment of the end plate to the cylinder. Our objective is to provide printing plate-making rolls.

Means for Solving the Problems In order to achieve the above object, the plate-making roll for gravure printing according to the present invention has an outer wall, an inner wall spaced from the outer wall, and at least three radial connections connecting both walls. Both ends of the inner wall and the connecting wall are cut off, and an end plate receiving part is formed by the cut-off end surfaces of both walls. An end plate with a tapered hole for connecting a rotating shaft is received by the end plate, and is fixed to the inner surface of both ends of the outer wall.

In addition, when applying copper plating to the surface of the cylinder, the surface is roughened by etching to improve adhesion with the plating layer, but the cylinder is made of A/-MO-8i series aluminum alloy. Therefore, it has better etching properties than pure aluminum, aluminum alloys other than those mentioned above, and iron. In the A/-Mg-8i series aluminum alloy, the Mg content is 0.

Moreover, if it is less than the lower limit, the strength will be insufficient, and if it exceeds the upper limit, it will be difficult to extrude using a boathole die.

Further, since the end plate is received by the receiving portion and fixed to the inner surface of both ends of the outer wall, there is no problem even if the cone end of the rotating shaft is press-fitted into the tapered hole of the end plate.

The cone ends of a pair of rotating shafts are press-fitted and keyed into the tapered holes of the end plates fixed to the inner surfaces of both ends of the cylinder each time the rolls are replaced, so repeated attachment and detachment of the rotating shafts will cause the taper to deteriorate. Since it is required that the inner peripheral surface of the hole does not wear out, the end plate is made of Fe, A/-MQ base aluminum 2.

It is preferable to use a material made of a metal that has good wear resistance, such as an i-Cu-based aluminum alloy.
