Abstract

PURPOSE:To charge electrostatically the coating layer of a heat-roller fixing device to positive polarity which is the same as that of a positively charged toner so as to prevent electrostatic offsets stably and inexpensively, by using tetrafluoroethylene containing chromic acid for forming the coating layer. CONSTITUTION:A heat roller 1 contains a heater 3 at the inside of its body and is provided with a coating layer 5 on its core 4. A supporting body 8 holding positively charged toner 6 is passed through the space between the heat roller 1 and a press roller 2 and a toner image 7 is thermally fixed on the supporting body 8. Since the coating layer 5 of the heat roller 1 is usually provided on a fluorocarbon resin, the coating layer 5 is negatively charged as the fixing device is actually used. However, since the coating layer 5 of this inventions is formed of tetrafluoroethylene containing chromic acid as an additive, this coating layer 5 is charged to positive polarity which is the same as that of the toner 6 and electrostatic offsets can be prevented.

らはコストおよび安全性の点で問題を有するものである
。さらに特開昭57−1150869号公報では弗素樹
脂としてのテフロンにカーボンを混入することが提案さ
れているが、カーボン混入によるオフセット防止効果は
充分満足し得るものではなかった。

フセット現象につき種々検討した結果、この静電的なオ
フセット現象がトナーの静電吸着に起因することを確認
するとともに、熱ローラの被覆層である弗素樹脂として
クロム酸を添加剤とする四弗化エチレンを用いることに
より、熱ロールがトナーと同極性の正帯電に帯電し、静
電的なオフセットが防止されることを知見した。本発明
はこれら知見に基づくものである。

の被覆層5はトナー6と同極性の正帯電に帯電し、静電
的なオフセットが防止できることになる。本発明におい
て、被覆層としてクロム酸を添加剤とする四弗化エチレ
ンを用いることにより被覆層6が正帯電することの理論
的解明はなされていないが、四弗化エチレンに添加され
たクロム酸が被覆層6を正帯電させることに寄与するこ
とはまちがいのないことである。

した。加圧ローラとしてはHTV81ゴムを使った。こ
の装置はリコー製複写機F T −5050と同一のも
dである。この装置全正帯電トナーを使用し九複写機に
装着し試験したところ、PFA テフロン金被覆した熱
ローラは一150Vに帯電しており、オフセットが発生
した。また、この熱ローラに帯電器を取り付ff、+x
sovにするとオフセットは完全に消えた。このことか
らもオフセットの原因が静電吸着であることが裏付けら
れた。
