Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance efficiency of a printing operation, by a system wherein it is discriminated whether a paper is in the state of being not yet sucked in, the state of being sucked in but not yet printed or the state of being sucked in and printed, and when a resetting command is supplied, the paper is discharged only when the paper is in the state of being sucked in and printed, whereby an unprinted paper is prevented from being discharged even in a resetting operation. CONSTITUTION:An external data (a) and a suction button signal (b) are inputted to a printer controller 11, a program and data are read from a memory 12 to control the entire part of the printer, and a line feeding controlling part 13 performs a line feeding operation as well as paper sucking-in and discharging operations. A printing-controlling part 14 performs a printing operation on the paper thus sucked in, while a cut sheet feeder controlling part 15 designates the state of a slip paper to a main body 16 of the cut sheet feeder, thereby controlling discharging or non-discharging when a resetting command is supplied. The control of the paper is divided into three conditions: (1) before sucking-in, (2) after sucking-in and before print, and (3) after sucking-in and printing. In the controlling part 15, one of the conditions (1)-(3) is stored in a register 121, and a discharging operation is conducted only in the condition (3), while it is not conducted in the conditions (1), (2). Accordingly, an efficient printing operation can be performed.

[Detailed Description of the Invention] (Summary) The present invention provides a cut sheet feeder of a printer that controls the suction, printing, and ejection of cut sheets, whether paper is fed before suction, after suction and before printing, or after suction and printing. Of the three states, a means is provided to eject paper in response to a reset command only in the state after suction printing, so that unprinted paper is not ejected by the reset operation.

FIG. 3 is a perspective view of this type of printer with a cut sheet feeder. In the figure, a suction command, a print code, etc. are input from an external processing device, and under the control of the cut sheet feeder 2 shown in the figure, a cut sheet 4 is taken out from the paper tray 3, sucked into the printing unit 1, and printing is executed. After that, the p-printed paper is ejected to the paper tray 5 using an ejection command.

A conventional printer with a cut sheet feeder is configured to eject the paper remaining in the printing section when the printer is reset. This is done so that after the reset operation, the top edge of the new paper will start rolling. However, if the reset operation is performed after sucking in a new sheet in advance by manual operation of the operator i1 or by means such as a suction button, there is a drawback that unprinted sheets are also ejected. This situation occurs with word processor programs currently in circulation. These word processors often send a reset command at the beginning of a sentence. In such a printer, when the operator starts the word processor after sucking in the paper using the above-mentioned means, the paper is ejected.

[Means for Solving the Problems] In order to achieve the above object, the present invention provides a cut sheet feeder of a printer that controls cut sheets to determine whether the paper is before suction, after suction and before printing, or after suction printing. It is equipped with means for distinguishing which of the three states it is in, and means for ejecting paper only when it is in the state after suction printing when a reset command is issued, and does not eject unprinted paper even during the reset operation. This is how it was done.

In the above configuration, even if the operator performs a manual operation or inhales using the suction button, etc., as long as printing is not performed, the unprinted paper will not be ejected even if a reset command is issued, and only the printed paper will be ejected. Since the paper is ejected, efficient printing operations can be performed.

[Effects of the Invention] As explained above, according to the present invention, in the cut sheet feeder of a printer, it is possible to determine whether the paper is in one of six states: before suction, after suction and before printing, or after printing by a person. The paper is ejected only when the reset command is issued and the paper is in the state after suction printing. With this, even if there is a reset command, unprinted paper is not ejected, and only printed paper is ejected, making it possible to perform an efficient printing operation.
