面YYに関しノズル2Aに対称にヘツダー1に取
付けられている。各ノズルの製作上の誤差その他
の理由のため、注水停止時に各ノズルが同時に冷
却水噴出を停止することはなく、早期に噴出を停
止たノズルと、依然として噴出を続けているノズ
ルとを生ずる。第2図において、ノズル2Aが早
期に噴出を停止してノズル2Aの内部の水面が逆
U字管の彎曲部2Uに達するとき別のノズル2B
が依然として噴出を続けているとすると、ノズル
2Bの噴孔6Bには水頭hが加えられるからノズ
ル2Bの冷却水噴出がかなり長く続くものと考え
られる。このように冷却装置20の全体として水
切りが悪いことは冷却停止と言う制御操作に対す
る応答性の不良を示すもので、熱延鋼板の冷却速

りも高さHだけ下方に開口させている。異形ノズ
ル7をヘツダー1に取付けたために、異形ノズル
7の脚9Aに通ずるヘツダー1の開口3Aにおけ
る圧力が水柱Hに相当する分だけ通常ノズル2に
通ずる開口3Bの圧力よりも小さく通常ノズル2
内の冷却水を異形ノズル7に吸込む。換言すれば
異形ノズル7がすべての通常ノズル2を含めヘツ
ダー1全体のサイフオンとして作用し、冷却装置
10の冷却水噴出停止と同時にヘツダー1内の冷
却水を鋼板の区域外に積極的に放出し通常のノズ
