In the past, driving information such as the time was displayed using meters and clocks installed on the instrument panel, but recently drivers do not have to take their eyes off the front view to view this information. A display device has been devised in which the driving information is imaged in the front field of view outside the windshield so that it can be seen so as to overlap with the foreground in the field of view (for example, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 182541/1982). It is called a head-up display device.

Although it is convenient (head amplifier type),
Since it is cumbersome to always display the latter in the front field of view, it is convenient to display it in the position of conventional meters on the instrument panel (head-down type).

The desired driving information A is displayed within the front field of view of the windshield 1, and the driving information B, which is sometimes desired such as remaining fuel level, is displayed on the front of the instrument pad 2.

Recently, there has been a trend toward using transmissive display type liquid crystal panels in order to improve the appearance and visibility of displays. When such a transmissive liquid crystal panel is used, the thickness in the optical axis direction including the illumination part is about 50 mm, which increases the depth and reduces the degree of freedom in repair design and shaping.

ある。(Objective and Structure of the Invention) The present invention has been made in view of the above points, and an object thereof is to make the head-up/head-down type display section using two transmissive display panels compact and to facilitate the layout. In order to achieve this purpose, the display panels of the head-up type display section and the head-down type display section are arranged close to each other back to back, almost coaxially, and one light source is arranged between both display panels. This is shared by both display sections.

17 is a light diffusion plate; 18 is a transmission liquid crystal panel that displays driving information (for example, remaining fuel level) for head-down display; 19 is a light diffusion plate; 20 is a light diffusion plate; This is the illumination light source for the transmissive liquid crystal panels 16 and 18, and a white light source such as a cold cathode discharge tube is used. 21 is a light reflector made by bending a thin aluminum plate, 22
2 is a magnifying lens that forms part of the head amplifier display section;
3 is a total reflection mirror, 24 is a transparent acrylic curved plate cover for head-down display, and the instrument side portion of the case 15 forms a shade 15a. As shown in the figure, the head-up display section and the head-down display section are arranged coaxially so that the optical axes of their driving information display lights substantially coincide with each other.

Therefore, the depth of the display section is significantly reduced compared to conventional configurations.

Even when the driving information and the head-down display are viewed alternately, there is no unnatural difference in the brightness of the display, making it easy to see. It is preferable that the light diffusing plate 17 has a higher transmittance.

In this embodiment, the illumination light source section is made into a unit and is replaceable, and shows a point and a light source using three illumination light sources 20. Since the parts other than the parts are completely the same as the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the same reference numerals will be given and the explanation will be omitted. The light source section has an illumination light source 20 and a light reflector 21 sandwiched between upper and lower clamp sections 25, and a hook section 26 is provided on the upper clamp section 25 to facilitate replacement.

Since one light source is arranged and shared by both display sections, the depth of the display section can be shortened, increasing the degree of design freedom in terms of decoration and shaping. Because they share the same brightness, the brightness of the head-up display image and the head-down display image can be controlled equally easily, and there is no eye fatigue due to unnaturalness when viewing both display images alternately.Furthermore, Another advantage is that maintenance is easy, as maintenance, inspection, and replacement of the illumination light source only need to be done once.
