DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a "polymer containing vinyl alcohol as a main component and vinyl acetate as a subcomponent, the vinyl alcohol content of which is adjusted so that it is alcohol-soluble and has an affinity for water"; or "a polymer containing vinyl alcohol as a main component and vinyl acetate as a subcomponent, with the vinyl alcohol content adjusted so that it is alcohol-soluble and has an affinity for water" and "a polymer that is alcohol-soluble and has an affinity for liquid hydrocarbons" The higher fatty acid content was adjusted to have
A polymer containing vinyl acetate as a main component and higher fatty acid vinyl ester as a subcomponent is added to and mixed with a liquid hydrocarbon containing alcohol or hydrous alcohol. This invention relates to a method for stabilizing liquid hydrocarbons.

It is known that alcohol is mixed uniformly with liquid hydrocarbons to some extent and is used as a gas hole. For example, 10% methanol is easily mixed into gasoline at room temperature and is used as mixed gasoline.

However, it is also known that when these alcohol-containing liquid hydrocarbons are mixed with a small amount of water, the alcohol and water are separated from the liquid hydrocarbon and separated into two layers.

The unstable properties of alcohol-containing liquid hydrocarbons, as typified by this property, have greatly reduced the uses of this mixture. As a method for removing this defect, methods of mixing not only methanol and ethanol but also higher alcohols or ethers have been studied, but it cannot be said that this defect has been fundamentally improved. On the other hand, attempts are being made to solve this problem by using surfactants, but it cannot be said that this field has been completely solved yet.

The present invention effectively improves the properties of alcohol-containing liquid hydrocarbons, which have poor stability. Polymers containing alcohol as a main component and vinyl acetate as a subcomponent, or "polymer containing vinyl alcohol as a main component and vinyl acetate as a subcomponent, with the vinyl alcohol content adjusted so that it is soluble in alcohol and has an affinity for water." ``A polymer containing vinyl acetate as a main component and a higher fatty acid vinyl ester as a minor component, which is alcohol-soluble and whose higher fatty acid content has been adjusted to have an affinity for liquid hydrocarbons.'' This can be achieved by adding and mixing both of them to an alcohol-containing liquid hydrocarbon.

Here, "a polymer containing vinyl alcohol as a main component and vinyl acetate as a subcomponent, the vinyl alcohol content of which has been adjusted so that it is alcohol-soluble and has an affinity for water" refers to ethylene-vinyl acetate-vinyl alcohol. Polymers whose main component is vinyl alcohol, such as copolymers and partially saponified polyvinyl acetate, which are soluble in alcohol and insoluble in water but exhibit swelling properties; "Polymer containing vinyl acetate as a main component and higher fatty acid vinyl ester as a minor component, whose higher fatty acid content has been adjusted to have an affinity for hydrocarbons" is an ethylene-vinyl acetate-higher fatty acid vinyl copolymer. Polymers mainly composed of vinyl acetate, such as vinyl acetate-higher fatty acid vinyl copolymers, are soluble in alcohols, insoluble in liquid hydrocarbons, and exhibit some swelling properties.

It is well known that the properties of polymers vary widely depending not only on their chemical composition, but also on the degree of polymerization, degree of polymerization distribution, degree of branching, and in the case of copolymers, the molar ratio of each monomer group, arrangement state, and other factors. It is.

Therefore, when a new function is discovered in the properties of a polymer as in the present application, the definition of the polymer does not primarily include the chemical composition but also the structure of the polymer. It is thought that a more appropriate method would be to include the properties themselves in the specifications.

From this perspective, the inventors have incorporated newly discovered functions such as "alcohol-soluble and has an affinity for water" or "alcohol-soluble and has an affinity for liquid hydrocarbons" into the regulations. It was.

Regarding stabilization, these polymers may be added directly to a mixture of alcohol and liquid hydrocarbon, but generally these polymers are dissolved in alcohol in advance and liquid hydrocarbon is gradually added. The preferred method is to do so.

As the alcohol, various alcohols such as methanol and ethanol propanol can be used, and mixtures thereof may also be used. Further, as a feature of this method, this alcohol system may contain some water. The mechanism by which alcohol-containing liquid hydrocarbons are stabilized by adding one or two of the above polymers according to the present invention is not necessarily clear, but the affinity of liquid hydrocarbons with methanol, for example, is due to the addition of these polymers. increased due to
As shown in JP-A No. 54-068371, the cause is thought to be, for example, methanol being solubilized in liquid hydrocarbons. Also, it seems that even if water is added to this system, it is emulsified and solubilized.

Example 1 0.05 part of a partially saponified polyvinyl acetate having a degree of saponification of 75 mol% was added to a mixture of 1 part of water and 2 parts of methanol and completely dissolved. 30 parts of this mixture was added and mixed with 70 parts of gasoline (RON94). % by weight) was added to 1 mole of vinyl acetate in an amount of 0.005 mole for partial saponification. This partially saponified product was neutralized with dilute sulfuric acid just before precipitation occurred in the methanol solution. A solution obtained by adding 90 parts of gasoline (RON94) to 10 parts of this solution is completely homogeneous. 30 parts of water-containing methanol (water:methanol=1:5) was added to this, but a homogeneous phase was maintained.
