Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain high definition picture recording with interchangeability with the conventional mode by sequentially recording simultaneously plural kinds of video signals spatially offset to one another by one field for one kind of the video signals and repeatedly sequentially forming the tracks. CONSTITUTION:Video signals S-1, S-2 obtained from a camera part are processed as usual and simultaneously recorded on magnetic tape through heads A1, B1, A2 and B2. Since the heads are offset by 90 deg., the track pitch is one half that of the usual pitch with the recording time remaining the same. During reproduction, time deviation for the heads A1, B1 and B1, B2 are corrected at a delay line DL and video signals S-1, S-2 are obtained by usual processing. For recording by the conventional mode, video signals are recorded using the heads A1, B2 and switching the signals S-1, S-2 from the camera part for each field. The reproduction is performed as conventional one.

In this invention, tracks of multiple types of video signals that are spatially offset from each other are simultaneously recorded sequentially on one track for each field of one type of video signal, and the tracks of each video signal are sequentially recorded. By repeating the formation, several times more video information can be recorded, high-definition signals can be recorded, and compatibility with conventional devices can be achieved.

1 + Bl + A2 + B2 are simultaneously recorded on the magnetic tape. The heads are arranged as shown in the head arrangement diagram of FIG. 4, and FIG. 5 shows the recording on the magnetic tape, the mother turn, and the azimuth angle by these heads. As is clear from Fig. 5, each head is offset by 90°, so when recording at the conventional tape speed, the track pitch will be the conventional A (for example, 29 μm in the standard mode of the VH8 type). The recording time is the same.

The interpolation section performs interpolation corresponding to "x" and synthesizes it into one field signal to obtain an interlaced video output. In order to obtain a non-interlaced video output, the signals S-1 and 8-2 are compressed into A by a time axis converter and converted into a time series signal.
