Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a polychromatic visible dust figure by scanning an original once by operating a development unit at timing and for a time corresponding to the area of a specified electrostatic latent image. CONSTITUTION:An electrostatic charger 2, an exposure part 3, a red toner development unit 41, a black toner development unit 42, a transfer guide 6, an electrostatic charger 8 for transfer, a roller 9 for separation, and a cleaning device 10 are arranged at the periphery of the photosensitive drum 1. A developing bias obtained by superposing an AC voltage and a DC voltage one over the other is applied to developing sleeves 51 and 52 of the development units 41 and 42. The application time of the developing bias is determined by an area specifying circuit 15, which excites a DC controller 16 and high-voltage transformers 171 and 172 at specific timing for a specific time, so that the developing bias is applied to the developing sleeves 51 and 52 of the development units 41 and 42 at the timing for the time for the development of the area of the specified electrostatic latent image.

As is well known, there are two types of color copying: the so-called multi-color method, which copies two or more monochromatic color images, and the full-color method, which copies a color image corresponding to the golden color of the original. There is. Many multi-color one-type color copying apparatuses use two developing units to copy two monochromatic color images.

There are two types of multi-color one-sided color copying devices; one type is one in which an electrostatic latent image for each color is simultaneously formed on a latent image carrier, in this case a photoreceptor, in one document scan; A predetermined number of developing units arranged along the photoreceptor sequentially develop predetermined portions of this electrostatic latent image to form a multi-color visible powder image at one time, which is then transferred and fixed. The other method is to form a visible powder image of one color on a photoreceptor using one developing unit at a time, and sequentially transfer the visible powder images of each color formed in this way to the same transfer material. A color visible powder image is formed on a transfer material by repeating an exposure-development-transfer process as many times as the number of colors to be copied, and then fixed.

However, with the method of simultaneously forming electrostatic latent images for each color on the photoreceptor in one scan of the document, it is difficult to form an electrostatic latent image on the photoreceptor that clearly corresponds to each color to be copied. This method has not been put into practical use due to the drawbacks that unacceptable color mixture occurs due to developer scattering and undesired color developer adhering to the photoconductor when developing simultaneously in two development units. is the actual situation.

In addition, the method of performing the exposure-development-transfer process for each color requires more time as the number of colors to be copied increases, and is extremely inefficient, and the same transfer material must be used repeatedly. However, it is difficult to accurately position the leading edge of the transfer material in each step, resulting in image shift, and furthermore, the transfer material may be deformed or curved.

The color image forming apparatus according to the present invention can be used as a color electrophotographic copying apparatus, a color distribution apparatus for a computer output section, etc., but in the following description, it is a color electrophotographic copying apparatus that forms two color images of black and red. A case where the present invention is applied to a device will be explained. In addition, this type of color electrophotographic copying apparatus uses various electrostatic latent image forming processes, such as the so-called NP process, which includes a new process of primary charging - secondary charging / color separation exposure - full exposure, or primary charging. −
The so-called Carlson process, which includes a new process of color separation exposure,
Alternatively, other processes may be used, but in this embodiment, an electrophotographic copying apparatus to which the Carlson process is applied will be described.

As described above, a developing bias in which AC voltage and DC voltage are superimposed is applied to the developing sleeves 5I and 5Z of each developing unit 4+ and 4Z, but the DC component of this bias voltage is supplied by the DC controller 16, and The AC portion is supplied by high voltage transformers 171 and 172, respectively. Also, the application time of the developing bias voltage is determined by the area specifying circuit 1.
5, and this area designation circuit 15 determines D.
The C controller 16 and the high voltage transformers 171 and 172 are energized at a predetermined timing and for a predetermined time, and the developing sleeves 5. .. A developing bias voltage is applied at the timing and time to develop the area of the electrostatic latent image designated as 5z. Therefore, during non-development, the development bias voltage is not applied to the development unit, and a development bias that does not cause development is applied, thereby reliably preventing undesired toner scattering and adhesion to the photosensitive drum, and preventing color mixture. You will get a clear color image.

In the above embodiment, the developing bias voltage is turned on and off to develop a designated area for each developing unit. However, only during development, each developing unit is brought close to the photosensitive surface of the photosensitive drum and designated. It is also possible to develop the area and move it to a position away from the photosensitive surface when not developing. In this case, it is more effective if a developing bias voltage is also used. Also, although the development area was specified for each of the two development units, the development area was specified only for one development unit, and the remaining area was specified for the other development unit without specifying a specific area. Alternatively, a multi-color developing device may be used in which two colors, red and black, are developed.
Although an example having developing units of different colors is illustrated, the two colors can be changed in various ways. Of course, it goes without saying that the present invention can also be applied to a multicolor developing device having three or more developing units.

As described above, in the present invention, the area of the electrostatic latent image to be developed is specified for each developing unit before the copying or printing process, and each developing unit performs the developing operation at accurate timing and time. Therefore, an electrostatic latent image that clearly corresponds to each color can be formed on the photoreceptor, that is, the latent image carrier, by one scan of the original, and it is possible to prevent developer from scattering or undesired toner from entering the latent image carrier. There is a remarkable advantage that a clear multicolor image without color mixture can be formed by one document scanning and one transfer. In addition, since only one document scan and one transfer are required, the speed of multicolor copying or printing is faster, and there is no need to position the tip of the transfer material, and there is no deformation or bending, making it very efficient and quick. It also has the advantage of being able to perform multicolor copying or printing.
