[Detailed Description of the Invention] <Industrial Application Field> The present invention is applicable to image recording devices such as facsimile machines, printers, and electrophotographic copying devices, in which recording materials (paper, plastic sheets, etc.) are set correctly with their front and back sides facing each other. The present invention relates to an image recording device that can detect whether or not a person is present.

<Problems to be Solved by the Invention> However, if the above thermal paper is set with its front and back sides reversed, the desired image will not be recorded even if it is heated because the back side is not heat-sensitive processed. . Therefore, the front and back sides of the cents on the thermal paper must be accurate, but it is not easy to distinguish between the front and back sides, and there is a problem in that it cannot be determined unless a predetermined image is recorded on the thermal paper.

2 is an explanatory diagram of the recording section of a facsimile machine. The recording material 1, which is wound into a roll and whose surface has been subjected to heat-sensitive processing, is as follows:1. The recording platen roller 2 transports the image from upstream to downstream as shown by arrow a, and the recording head 3 in pressure contact with the platen roller 2 heats the image information G in accordance with the image information G, thereby recording an image. The recording material 1 on which the image has been recorded is cut by a cutter 4, and is then cut by a discharge roller 5, a pack amplifier, and a roller 6 into a discharge tray 7.
The recording material 1 on the roll side is discharged upward, and is configured so that the cut end returns from the position of the cutter 4 to the position of the recording head 3.

Reference numeral 8 denotes a reflective sensor, which constitutes a detection means capable of detecting a difference in color by detecting a difference in light reflectance. is configured to perform a recording operation. The sensor 8 is located below the recording platen roller 2 (on the upstream side of conveyance of the recording material) and the recording material 1 being conveyed.
It is arranged at a position that irradiates one side (in this embodiment, the near side in FIG. 2).

The recording material 1 wound into a roll is entirely white, but one side of the tip of the back surface is colored black as shown in FIG. has been done. Further, this identification portion 9 is formed on the side opposite to the side illuminated by the reflective sensor 8 when the recording material 1 is set normally (back side in FIG. 2).

First, if the recording material 1 is placed correctly on both sides, that is, if the front surface of the recording material 1 is set in contact with the recording head 3, the identification part 9 of the recording material 1 is located on the side illuminated by the sensor 8. It's on the back in the opposite position. Therefore sensor 8
irradiates the white background portion of the recording material 1, and detects that the recording material 1 is properly set based on the reflectance at that time. When a recording switch (not shown) is pressed in this state, the apparatus starts recording operation.

Next, if the recording material is set upside down, that is, recording material 1
When the recording material 1 is set so that its back surface is in contact with the recording head 3, the identification portion 9 formed on the side of the back surface of the recording material 1 passes through the irradiation position of the sensor 8 (the front side in FIG. 2). At this time, the sensor 8 detects the black color formed on the identification part 9, and detects that the recording material 1 is set upside down due to the difference in reflectance from the white color, and at this time, the device 6 presses the heather recording switch. Also, no recording or operation is performed. , Furthermore, if the recording switch is pressed without recording material 1 being set, the sensor 8 cannot detect the white background of recording material 1, so at this time, the device is also activated. It does not perform any recording operation.

<Example> In the above-mentioned example, the identification part 9 was formed only at the tip of the back surface of the recording material 1, but as shown in FIG. Alternatively, it may be formed on the entire back surface. With the above configuration, it is possible to detect whether the front and back sides have been set correctly not only when a new recording material 1 is set, but also when a partially used recording material 1 is set.

Further, in the above-mentioned embodiment, the identification portion 9, which is a charred fish, is formed on the back surface of the recording material 1. However, even if the color is not black, as long as the color has a different reflectance from the white background on the front surface, the front and back surfaces of the recording material 1 can be detected based on the difference in reflectance. From this, if the identification portion 9 is made of a material with a different reflectivity from the surface, the identification portion 9 is not limited to color.

Furthermore, it is also possible to detect the front and back surfaces of the recording material 1 by forming the identification section 9 from a magnetic material and by configuring the sensor 8 with a magnetic detection sensor. In this case, it is not appropriate to form the identification portion 9 on the entire back surface of the recording material 1.
・Furthermore, when the recording material 1 is not set properly, a display section that displays the signal from the sensor 8 that detects this fact is configured with an LED or LCD, or a sound is generated when the recording material 1 is not set properly. If a speaker is connected to the sensor 8 to give a warning, the operator can easily know that the recording material 1 is not set properly.

In the above-described embodiment, the platen roller 2 was used to convey the recording material 1, but the conveyance of the recording material is not limited to rollers; for example, a rotating belt may be used to convey the recording material. It's also good.

<Effects of the Invention> As described above, the present invention provides an identification portion on the back surface of a recording material that can be distinguished from the front surface, and the identification portion is detected by a predetermined detection means when the recording material is conveyed upside down. Because of this structure, even if the recording material is set upside down, this can be automatically and reliably detected.
