Abstract

PURPOSE:To effectually prevent defective charging of mercury which might be caused by adhesion of mercury to an exhaust tube by heating and evaporating mercury adhering to the exhaust tube. CONSTITUTION:When mercury is charged into a lamp 1 by using a curved tubular exhaust device the lamp 1, a conductor 2 and an exhaust tube 3 are positioned as shown in the figure. It occurs occasionally that immediately after mercury charging is performed mercury 5 adheres on the inner surface of the exhaust tube 3 and does not enter the lamp 1. Therefore, in the next process, the top portion of the exhaust tube 3 is heated by a burner 4 to close the upper end of an exhaust path 8 before the whole of the exhaust path 8 is closed by burners 6. As the result, the mercury 5 heated and evaporated by the burners 6 is introduced only into the lamp 1. After these processes, the exhaust tube 3 and the lamp 1 are chipped off by a burner 7.
