Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the durability and fasteness to light, heat resistance of thermal recording material by conaining pigments or dyes having photoabsorption in a specific range of light wavelengths into a heat sensitive layer and/or a heat sensitive film layer. CONSTITUTION:Pigments or dyes having photoabsorption in the range of light wavelengths 400-600nm on a heat sensitive layer and/or a coated layer containing an acid substance which colors leuco dye when heated are provided as additives to leuco dye. This improves the fastness to light remarkably. The acceptable pigments or dyes should have high photoabsorption within the range of light wavelengths 400-600nm. In addition, they are allowed to have photoabsorption of sch light wavlengths and those other than the former. When the fastness to light is enhanced, the introduction of the above-mentioned materials into the protection layer instead of the heat sensitive layer is more effective. If they are introduced into the scattering system, their particle diameter should preferably be smaller. Further, the simultaneous use of ultraviolet ray absorbent or antioxidant as a photo-stabilizer with the pigment or dye used will contritube toward an improvement of the fastness to light.

[Detailed Description of the Invention] <Industrial Application Field> The present invention relates to a heat-sensitive recording material, and more specifically, to improving the fastness, particularly the light and heat resistance, of a heat-sensitive recording material containing a leuco dye and an acidic substance that causes the dye to develop color when heated. This invention relates to a heat-sensitive recording material.

<Prior Art> In general, heat-sensitive recording materials whose coloring components are a flit-colored or light-colored leuco dye and an acidic substance that causes the leuco dye to develop color when heated, have a lower temperature than other heat-sensitive recording materials that have been put to practical use in the past.
Because the resulting colored images are very clear, it is widely used as recording paper for computer output, facsimiles, recorders, etc., and also for tickets, cards, etc. However, when a recording sheet using this heat-sensitive recording material is exposed to sunlight, fluorescent light, etc. for a long period of time, color fading occurs in colored areas and discoloration occurs in uncolored areas, and improvements are needed.

<Means for solving the problems> The present invention provides a heat-sensitive recording material comprising a heat-sensitive layer containing a leuco dye and an acidic substance that causes the leuco dye to develop color when heated, or a coating layer on the heat-sensitive layer. The present invention was completed based on the discovery that a significant improvement in light resistance can be obtained by incorporating a pigment or dye that absorbs light in the wavelength range of 400 to 600 nm into the coating layer. That is,
Photodeterioration of the heat-sensitive recording material is caused not only by light wavelengths in the ultraviolet region below 400 nm but also by light wavelengths in the range of 400 to 600 r+m. For this purpose, we not only need to block ultraviolet light wavelengths by adding ultraviolet absorbers, etc., but also
By blocking light in the range of 600°C, a significant improvement in the optical properties of the heat-sensitive recording material can be obtained.

Density of colored area (black) before surface exposure <Effects of the invention> As shown in the table, pigments or dyes having light absorption in the light wavelength range of 400 to 600 nun are applied to the heat-sensitive layer and/or the heat-sensitive layer. It has been found that by including it in the coating layer, the light resistance is significantly improved compared to when it is not included.
