Abstract

PURPOSE:To attempt energy saving and increase of capacity of analytical treatment, by automation of a spiking operation of a chemical analysis system. CONSTITUTION:Relative to a powder specimen container 10 transported by a conveyor 11, an istopic structure of the specimen is measured by an alpha-ray analyzer 1, simultaneously, a specimen number is read out by a number reader 2 and these data are introduced into a computer 9. Further, in a spiking operation, a specimen number of a container 12 transported by a conveyor 13 is read out by a number reader 6 and a proper quantity of spikes is added by a titrating device 5 together with data of contents of uranium and plutonium contained in the specimen. Thus, by automation of the spiking operation of the analysis system, a great magnitude of sample treatments of various isotopic structures can be available.

The isotope dilution method is a method in which a spike with a known isotopic composition is added to a sample to be measured with an unknown isotopic composition, and the sample is analyzed using a mass spectrometer. It is desirable to use the same amount. However, the content of the substance to be measured in the received sample varies over a wide range.

After measuring the weight, a dissolution operation is performed to turn the sample into a solution, which is then divided into two parts. One of these samples is subjected to mass spectrometry as is, while the other is spiked with a solution of known isotopic composition using an automatic titrator, subjected to mass spectrometry, and compared with the previous analysis results to determine the original sample. Ask for the consent composition inside.
