Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate manufacture of a platen roll in a multilayer construction and enable the constitution of component layers to be changed, by a method wherein an unvulcanized rubber layer is provided around the outer periphery of a mandrel, the rubber layer is vulcanized to form a main body of a platen roll, a core body is press fitted into the main body, and the outer periphery of the main body is finished. CONSTITUTION:An unvulcanized inner layer rubber 2 is continuously extruded in a tubular form on the outer periphery of the mandrel 5 by an extruder 7a, and a sound-absorbing reinforcement layer 3 is continuously applied to the outer periphery of the rubber 2. Further, an unvulcanized outer layer rubber 4 is extruded on the outer periphery of the layer 3 by an extruder 7b to provide the continuous unvulcanized main body Ea of the platen roll. The main body Ea is cut to a predetermined length, which is covered by a covering material for vulcanization, and is vulcanized by heating under pressure in a vulcanizer. After vulcanization, the covering material 11, 12 is released, the mandrel 5 is removed by a stripping machine 4, the main body blank thus obtained is cut to a predetermined length by a cutter to obtain a main body Ec of the roll. The core body is press fitted into the main body Ec, and the outer peripheral surface of the body Ec is finished by an external cylindrical grinding machine or the like.

Generally, platen rolls for printers are constructed by coating the outer periphery of a core body with high-hardness vulcanized rubber. Conventionally, the outer periphery of the core body is coated with uncured rubber using a molding method or an injection method. A method is used in which sulfuric rubber is molded, vulcanized, and then the outer peripheral surface is finished by cutting.

(bl As mentioned above, printer platen rolls with a so-called single-layer structure, in which the outer periphery of the core is simply coated with high-hardness vulcanized rubber, produce significant noise during printing. In order to eliminate this, sound absorbing It is necessary to manufacture rolls with an effective multilayer structure, but with the conventional manufacturing method described above, the process of laminating the sound absorbing layers is complicated, making it practically difficult to manufacture, and it is difficult to stabilize the quality. It's difficult.

That is, in the present invention, an unvulcanized inner layer rubber is extruded into a tube shape around the outer periphery of a mandrel using an extruder, a sound absorbing reinforcing layer is applied to the outer periphery of this inner layer rubber, and an unvulcanized outer layer is further applied to the outer periphery of this sound absorbing reinforcing layer. After extruding rubber using an extruder to form a continuous unvulcanized roll body, this unvulcanized roll body is vulcanized, and then the mandrel is pulled out from this vulcanized roll body to form this continuous roll body. After cutting the vulcanized roll body into a predetermined length to obtain a platen roll body, the core is press-fitted into the platen roll body and bonded together, and then the outer peripheral surface is finished. The gist of this paper is a method for manufacturing a platen roll for printers, which is characterized by the following characteristics:
