Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a stereoscopic sensation image by projecting an image which is seen with a left eye and an image which is seen with a right eye alternately on the same projection screen in a time-division mode. CONSTITUTION:An image which is seen with the left eye 4L and an image which is seen with the right eye 4R are projected alternately at intervals of 1/60sec as to an image having 60 image planes per second on the screen 2 of a cathode-ray tube 1. Then, shutters 3L and 3R which cut off light intermittently in synchronism with the screen 2 of the cathode-ray tube 1 are provided in front of the left and right eyes 4L and 4R. When an image which is seen with the left eye 4L is projected, the shutter 3L is operated at the light transmission side and the shutter 3R is operated to the light shield side under the control of a control signal 5. When an image which is seen with the right eye 4R is projected, on the other hand, the shutter 3R is set at the light transmission side and the shutter 3L is set at the light shield side. Therefore, only images which are expected to be seen with the left eye are seen with the left eye all the time and only images expected to be seen with the right eye are seen with the right eye, so even a plane image can be seen stereoscopically.

The following is a description of an embodiment in which the present invention is applied to television images. Sixty images are displayed per second on the screen 2 of the cathode ray tube 1 of the television receiver system 6. 4. This 60 screen per second is transmitted to the left eye. The image that L should see and the right eye 4. The images to be viewed are projected alternately for 1/60 seconds each, and it goes without saying that the images projected on the cathode ray tube must be captured so that they appear as the images seen by the left and right eyes, respectively.

Now, screen 2 shows left eye 4. Assuming that the image to be seen is projected on L, the left eye 4I shutter 3. 4. The right eye moves to the light blocking side according to the control signal 5 of the LVi shutter. R
Shutter 3. R is operating on the light blocking side.Meanwhile, in the same way, the right eye 4. is displayed on screen 2. If the image to be seen is projected in R, the right eye 4. Shutter for R4° 3. R moves to the light blocking side and the left eye 4. T, + shutter 3. The left eye always sees the left eye as L moves towards the light blocking side. The right eye always sees only the image that the right eye should see, and even if it is a two-dimensional image, it can be seen three-dimensionally. It's exactly the same thing in the image, so I'll omit the explanation.

In the case of a television, the synchronization signal 5 can be easily generated from the vertical synchronization signal, and if the synchronization period of the television receiver 6 is stable, the viewer can independently synchronize without using the synchronization signal 5. In the case of movies, the left and right eye injury synchronization signals are supplied to the audience seats, and the synchronization signals can be linked to the shutters, or the theatergoers can independently synchronize the signals. By changing the projection method to darkness and viewing through a simple light-transmitting or light-blocking shutter, the viewer can view the three-dimensional image in natural colors without any discomfort.
