Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce suction resistance and to lower cost, by covering the external top parts, one lateral sides or recessed parts of the corrugated pleats of a filter element with a corrugated filter paper or cloth to succeedingly fills the spaces therebetween with an adsorbent such as activated carbon. CONSTITUTION:A cleaner element 1 comprises filter paper having a large number of pleats 2 formed thereto and another cleaner element 3 comprising filter paper having pleats 4 formed thereto at the same pitches is applied to the outer periphery of the cleaner element 1 to form a double structure while the recessed bottom parts 5 of the pleats 2, 4 are superposed to form spaces each having an inverted V-shape and activated carbon 6 is allowed to fill said spaces. When the engine is stopped, evaporated fuel is adsorbed and collected by activated carbon and, when the engine is started the adsorbed fuel is purged by air to be sent into the engine.

As shown in FIG. 1, many air cleaners for automobile engines use filter paper rolled into a cylinder shape with continuous corrugated pleats 2 formed in the circumferential direction as the filter element 1. Waveform Hita 2 is the filter paper with increased filtration area.
It is placed in an air cleaner case with the top and bottom sides closed, and filtered air is supplied to the engine from the outside to the inside.

On the other hand, the gas tank, Ki [! In order to prevent the evaporated twist 1F+ from the Breta float sky and the blow-by gas/r discharged from the crankcase from dissipating into the atmosphere, and to prevent the fuel-air mixture ratio from becoming rich due to the evaporated fuel filling the intake passage, activated carbon, etc. Measures have been taken to adsorb these gases with adsorbents, and there are various types of air cleaners with adsorbents placed in them! Two proposals have been proposed. However, the conventional structure of this type of adsorbent is to provide an annular layer of activated carbon fine particles or fibers on the outer or inner periphery of the filter element, and completely block communication with the atmosphere by this annular layer. Since this is based on the assumption that intake air is supplied through this activated carbon layer, there is a disadvantage that intake resistance increases. For this reason, attempts have been made to reduce the resistance by making the activated carbon layer pleated to increase the area of contact, or by using an activated carbon layer that has been solidified and has many pores. There were many problems with this.

In accordance with the above object, the air creep of the engine of the present invention is achieved by placing a cylindrical paper having a large number of corrugated pleats in the circumferential direction in the air creep around the filter element. The outside of the top, one side, or the inside of the recess is covered with corrugated paper, cloth, etc., and an adsorbent such as activated carbon is continuously added thereto.

FIG. 2 shows an enlarged view of a part of the cleaner element 1, which is a filter paper having a large number of grooves 2 formed thereon, as in the conventional filter. Another cleaner element 3 made of filter paper and having the same pitch extensions 4 is attached to the outer periphery of the cleaner element 1 to form a double structure. In this case, the pleats 4 are set higher than the pleats 2, and the concave bottoms 5 of the pleats 2 and 4
By overlapping the folds 2, a closed inverted V-shaped space is formed on the outside of the top of the pleats 2, and the activated carbon 6 is filled in this space.

By incorporating the cleaner element configured as described above into the air cleaner, evaporated fuel and the like that have diffused into this area when the engine is stopped are adsorbed and collected by the activated carbon 6 and are not released into the atmosphere. When starting the engine, air is drawn into the intake passage through the cleaner element 1.3, and at that time the activated carbon 6
The adsorbed fuel is purged and sent to the engine cylinder.

When the air can handle the cleaner elements 1 and 3, it also needs to partially pass through the activated carbon 6E, but since the activated carbon 6 layer is V-shaped and arranged in spots, there are many thin parts, 13, and non-existent parts. , does not increase inhalation resistance. On the other hand, when adsorbing evaporated fuel, it is diffusion and there is no strong pressure action, so even if the activated carbon layer does not completely surround the cleaner element, it is guaranteed that most of it will be absorbed. As described above, the engine air cleaner according to the present invention utilizes the shape of the corrugated folds of the 'ai paper cleaner element to intermittently apply an adsorbent to a part of the outer surface of the cleaner element. The adsorbent adsorbs the evaporated fuel diffused in the fuel tank, the evaporated fuel from the introduced FJF fuel tank, and the blow pipe in the crank chamber, and functions as a evaporated fuel collection device. When air is taken in by starting the engine, the absorbed fuel is directly purged. When acting as this air cleaner, since the adsorbent is disposed intermittently, the ventilation resistance does not increase significantly and the function does not deteriorate. Since the adsorbent is attached to the dirty side of the cleaner element, fine particles of the adsorbent will not be sucked into the engine. If the adsorbent is held in the concave bottom, it will always be sucked in by air, so adhesives etc. It does not fall off even when not in use, and prevents clogging of the cleaner element due to adhesive application. In addition, the purge boat and various valves for purging that are attached to the carburetor associated with conventional KiPnister devices can be omitted, and the replacement and repair of the suction agent can be done at one station of the cleaner element, such as inspection and periodic replacement. This has the effect of making it easier to use time and improving maintenance P1.
