Abstract

PURPOSE:To consider redundancy information according to the correlation between colors contained in the picture signal and to heighten the coding efficiency by resolving the color picture signal to plural component signal and coding after the correlation of these component signals are removed. CONSTITUTION:The color picture signal from a color picture signal input terminal 1 is resolved to the color signals R, G and B at a color resolving part 2 and is added to a correlative removing part 3 composed of exclusive circuits 4 and 5. The correlation between the color signals R and G is removed at the circuit 4, the correlation between the color signals G and B is removed at the circuit 5, respective correlation removing color signals G' and B' are inputted to the memory part 6 with the color signal R and are stored at the respective 4-line memories 7-9. The signals R, G' and B' from the memories 7-9 are inputted through a selector 10 to the coder 11 based upon the control of the control part 12. The correlation of the signal resolved to the color signals R, G and B is removed, the signal whose correlation is removed is coded and the coding efficiency can be sufficiently heightened.

The figure is a block diagram of a color image signal encoding device according to an embodiment of the present invention. In this figure, 1 is a terminal to which a color image signal (digital signal) is input, and 2 is a terminal to which the color image signal is input, and 2 is a terminal for inputting the color image signal to each color signal R, G, BK of red, green, and blue.
This is a color separation unit that separates the images. Reference numeral 3 denotes a correlation removing section for removing redundant information due to the correlation of color signals R, G, and B, and is composed of two exclusive OR circuits 4 and 5. Reference numeral 6 denotes a memory section that stores four lines of each of the color signals R, G', and B'i output from the correlation removing section 3, and is composed of three 4-line memories 7, 8, and 9. 1o is a 4 line memory7.
A selector 8.9 selects and outputs the color signal outputted from 9, and 11 is an encoder that encodes four lines at once. Reference numeral 12 denotes signal input/output of the correlation removing section 3 and read/write of the memory section 6.

The signal is separated into color signals R, G, and H for each color of green and evening, and is input to the correlation removing section 3. In the correlation removal section 3, in order to remove redundant information due to the correlation of each color signal, an exclusive OR operation between the color signals R and G and the color signal G are performed.

The exclusive OR operation between 8 and 8 is executed by the exclusive OR circuit 4.5, and the color signal G', which is obtained by removing the correlation with the color signal R from the color signal G, and the color signal G from the color signal B, is obtained. A decorrelated color signal B' is obtained.

Note that the color signal R is output as is from the correlation removing section 3. This is because when overlapping encoded color image signals, the color signal G or l, j B y can be easily restored by exclusive OR operation of the color signal R and the color signal G' or B'. This is for the purpose of

Now, the color signal R2G' output from the correlation removing section 3,
Four lines of B' are stored in each of the four line memories 7.8.9 of the memory section 6. The color signals R, G', and B' read out from these 4-line memories 7.8.9 are selectively input to the encoder 11 by the selector 1o,
Each of the four lines is encoded at once.

As described above, since the color signal correlation is removed before encoding, the encoding efficiency can be significantly improved. Specifically, in the case of a color image signal obtained by reading a color photograph, the decoding efficiency improves by about 20 degrees by removing correlation. When the encoder 11 uses, for example, the MR method recommended by CCITT or the known differential blocking method (a method developed by Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation), and the color image signal is quantized at 4 bits/pixel, 2 Encoding efficiency below pit/pixel can be achieved.
