Abstract

PURPOSE:To lessen maloperation of display on shortage of ink as well as prevent the drooping of liquid in the nozzle portion by a method in which the position of a pattern coding plate is detected by a pattern code detector to detect the residual amount of ink in a multiple stage. CONSTITUTION:As the amount of ink is reduced, a pattern coding plate 5 is moved downwards, and magnetic materials 11 and 12 are detected by magnetic sensors 13 and 14. By displaying the levels of each ink at four stages of full, medium, slightly small and lack, the residual amounts of ink can be detected and displayed at the four stages by two sensors. In the same way, when n-numbers of sensors are used, the display of ink residual amount at 2<n> stages can be performed. Since the detection and display of ink levels at multiple stage are permitted, the maloperation of ink shortage display can be prevented as compared with the conventional cases where only ink shortage is displayed.

qll Conventionally, inkjet printers have been equipped with a member that presses the ink bag in the ink cassette in order to detect when the ink in the ink cartridge is running out, and this suppressing member operates a switch when the ink runs out. (Japanese Utility Model Publication No. 54-114956), but since a suppressing member is used, the ink supply side is pressurized.
The problem was that the nozzle part was prone to dripping, and since detection was based on turning on and off a switch, it was impossible to prevent malfunctions.

Purpose The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, and there is no fear of liquid dripping at the nozzle portion, and the multi-step detection display of the remaining ink level makes it possible to reduce the risk of ink running out compared to a case where only an ink running out indication is displayed. An object of the present invention is to provide an ink remaining amount detection device for an inkjet printer that is free from display malfunctions.

FIG. 1 is a diagram showing the overall configuration of the ink remaining amount detection device according to the present invention, in which 1 is an ink cassette receiving part into which ink cartridges 1 and 2 are loaded, 3 is an ink bag stored in the ink cassette 2, Heat seal part 4 on the bottom mating surface of the ink bag
The pattern code imparting plate 5 is formed by vertically bending a part of the plate or by adding another member. Therefore, when the ink in the ink bag 3 decreases due to ink consumption, the pattern code applying plate 5 moves downward and reaches the bottom when the ink is exhausted. Then, the pattern code on the pattern code applying plate 5 is read by a pattern code detection sensor 6 through a notch 7 provided in the ink cartridge 1 to detect the remaining amount of ink. 8, since the pattern code giving plate 5 is extremely thin,
This is a guide to prevent it from bending or falling.

Now, as the ink decreases, the pattern code application plate moves downward, and the time when the magnetic sensors 13 and 14 detect a magnetic substance is expressed by the logical value ], and the time when no magnetic substance is detected is expressed by the logical value O. Table 1 shows the outputs of the sensors 13 and 13-4 when the sensors 13 and 13-4 reach the positions A, B, C, and D shown in FIG.

Similarly, if n sensors are used, the remaining ink amount can be displayed in 2n stages. In this way, multi-level ink level detection and display is possible, and as compared to the conventional method where only the ink out is displayed, it is possible to eliminate malfunctions in the ink out display. In addition, since it is possible to display ink levels in multiple levels using only a few sensors, it is possible to display multiple levels at low cost.

- As described above, according to the present invention, since the remaining ink level is detected and displayed in multiple stages, the malfunction of the ink out detection display is less likely to occur, compared to the case where only out of ink is detected and displayed. Furthermore, since the coded multi-stage display is used, there is no need to worry about adjustments or malfunctions compared to analog multi-stage displays, and since only a small number of sensors are required, multi-stage display can be performed at low cost.

Furthermore, unlike the conventional ink bag suppressing member, there is no need to worry about liquid dripping at the nozzle.
