Two engaging pieces that are spaced apart from each other by a distance slightly smaller than the diameter of the coins to be sorted are projected into the coin sorting passage, and are simultaneously engaged with both engaging pieces and supported by the weight of the held coins. Two types of coin sorting cradles, large and small, each configured to rotate around an axis and transfer coins having a regular diameter and weight into a predetermined coin passage, are installed on both sides of the vertical coin passage partition plate. Coins to be sorted in the lower cradle are normally sorted by passing them from the upper cradle to the lower cradle. In a type 2 coin sorting device in which a hole is provided in the vertical coin passage, a small diameter coin sorting cradle is provided at a position above a large diameter coin sorting cradle, and a pivot shaft of the small diameter coin sorting cradle is aligned with its first axis. A pair of holding levers are rotatably supported around a second axis perpendicular to the second axis, and are engaged with the small-diameter coin sorting cradle to normally hold the cradle so as not to rotate around the second axis. The upper ends of the pair of holding levers are respectively pivotally connected to vertical coin passage partition plates, and the upper ends of the pair of holding levers are positioned opposite to each other at an interval slightly smaller than the diameter of the large-diameter coin in the coin passage on the entrance side of the small-diameter coin sorting cradle.
