Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the number of parts and reduce the cost by forming coordinate input detection plates by etching conductive transparent films. CONSTITUTION:A coordinate input device, in which comb-shaped parallel electrodes 13 are used, includes two detection plates 11 which face each other across pressure-sensitive conductive rubber. Pressure is applied onto a detection plate 11 with a pen, whose coordinate position is detected from the divided voltage containing information on X and Y coordinates. Each detection plate 11 is formed of a conductive transparent film and prepared by the vapor deposition of indium oxide, etc. as conductive film material on a base material of polyester, etc. A beltlike part 12 is formed at one side of the conductive film of the detection plate 11, and a comb-shaped part 13 perpendicular to the beltlike part 12 is formed over the entire surface except the part 12, forming a comb-shaped electrode. Those beltlike part 12 and comb-shaped part 13 are formed by etching, and electrode 14 and 15 for external connection are provided at both ends of the beltlike part 12.

The above is the principle of a coordinate input device using parallel electrodes having a planar shape. The detection board used here can be created by etching the copper foil of a printed wiring board or by screen printing, but these methods are difficult to add and require a separate resistor. It is also known that a diagram can be placed under the coordinate input device to copy the drawing, and a display device can be placed under the coordinate input device to display handwriting, etc., but in the conventional example, the parallel electrodes are Since it is opaque, it cannot be used as described above.

In FIG. 2, the detection plate 11 is made of a conductive transparent film. The conductive transparent film is a well-known film, and is made by coating a base material such as polyester with a conductive film material such as indium oxide, gold, or baradium by a method such as vapor deposition. Among these, indium oxide, gold, baradium, etc. are applied by a method such as vapor deposition. Among these, those using indium oxide have good uniformity of the resistance film and can be used as a uniform resistor. Therefore, one side of the conductive film of the detection plate 11 is used as a strip-shaped portion 12 to form a strip-shaped resistor. Further, the remaining entire surface of the detection plate 11 other than the strip portion 12 is formed as a comb-shaped electrode as a comb-shaped portion 13 extending in a direction perpendicular to the strip portion 12. The band portion 12 and the comb portion 13 are formed by etching. In FIG. 2, the shaded area is the part where the conductive film remains, and the conductive film is peeled off in other parts by etching.

When two coordinate input detection plates formed in this way are stacked and used, they operate according to the principle explained in FIG. If a constant voltage is applied between them, since the strip part 12 is a uniform resistor, a divided voltage will be generated in the comb-shaped electrode of the comb-shaped part 13 according to the distance from the edge of the detection plate.
When the detection plate is touched by pen input, a voltage containing coordinate information in the Xll111 direction is derived from the electrode of the other detection plate. In the same way, a voltage including coordinate information in the Y-axis direction can be derived, so the coordinate position of the pen can be known.

Effects of the Invention As described above, the coordinate input detection board of the present invention is formed by etching a conductive transparent film, so it is easier to process than etching the copper foil of a printed circuit board, and does not require a separate resistor. This reduces the number of parts and significantly reduces costs. Furthermore, by using a transparent material, it is possible to construct a transparent coordinate input device, and it is possible to make a device capable of copying pictures and displaying handwriting, which is extremely effective.
