In a diesel engine advance angle adjustment device equipped with a hydraulic actuator that adjusts the phase angle between the injection pump camshaft and the engine side drive shaft according to the rotational speed of the engine body, the first shape at low temperatures is used. On the other hand, an advance adjustment member made of a shape memory alloy that can be reversibly deformed into a second shape different from the first shape at high temperatures is attached to the actuator, and when the engine body is at low temperature, the advance angle adjustment member is mounted on the actuator. The actuator is held at the optimum advance angle position by an adjustment member at the time of starting, and the actuator is returned to the normal advance angle position as the advance adjustment member is deformed due to a rise in temperature of the engine body.
