Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the practical use in an electronic device with a solar battery having sound generating function by driving a sound generator drive circuit by excess power at high illumination time. CONSTITUTION:In an electronic device with a solar battery for a portable calculator, an LSI circuit 1 is driven through a series resistor 3 by a solar battery power source 2. A sound generator drive circuit 8 is contained in the circuit 1, and electric power is supplied through a constant-voltage element 9 from the power souce 2. When excess power of the necessary operation power or higher is generated except the sound generating function at the high illumination time, a sound generating mechanism is operated. The mechanism is not operated by the element 9 at the low illumination time, thereby preventing the power source voltage from decreasing to prevent the erroneous operation.

On the other hand, some of these devices are equipped with a sound generation function using piezoelectric elements in an effort to improve their functionality. However, devices such as calculators that use solar cells as their driving source consume more power when generating sound. Therefore, there was a drawback that it could not be put to practical use.

In this case, especially when the current consumption characteristics and constant voltage diode characteristics of the LSI circuit are plotted with voltage (V) on the horizontal axis and current (1) on the vertical axis, the result is as shown in Figure 2.In Figure 0, each curve is represents the following characteristics:

However, under low illumination conditions, when no sound is being produced, the Q point is the operating point and there is no problem, but when the LSI is producing sound, the operating point moves to the R point due to an increase in LSI current consumption, causing the device to fall outside the operating voltage range and cause malfunctions. There were drawbacks. In other words, there is a problem in that the sound generation operation is possible under high illuminance, but becomes impossible under low illuminance. Conventionally, this has been dealt with by providing a dedicated switch to turn the sound generation on and off, and allowing the operator to judge the illumination situation and switch the sound generation on and off. It had drawbacks such as being vague and complicated.

A first constant voltage element 4 (for example, a constant voltage diode) is inserted in the SI circuit in parallel with the power supply via a series resistor 3. On the other hand, the LSI circuit has a built-in sounding element drive circuit 8 (for example, constituted by an inverter circuit and to which a tone signal is input) for driving the sounding element 5, and this sounding element driving circuit 8 and the solar battery power supply 2. A second constant voltage element 9 (for example, a constant voltage diode) is inserted in series between them. With this configuration, when surplus power exceeding the required operating power for functions other than the sound generation function is generated by the first and second constant voltage elements during high illuminance, the sound generation function is activated via the second constant voltage element 9. is activated, and the second constant voltage element 9 is activated at -powerful illuminance.
Since the sound generation function does not operate due to the function of , the necessary operating power for functions other than the sound generation function is secured, and malfunctions can be prevented.
