If you use this type of abrasive to polish soft metals, plastics, etc., the chipped shoulder of the object being polished will stick to the abrasive paper or cloth, causing scratches, even if the low-grain cutting edge has not yet become completely dull. Regardless, the polishing ability tends to deteriorate. In order to improve these defects, fine particles of fluororesin such as tetrafluoroethylene polymer, tetrafluoroethylene-16-fluoroethylene copolymer, and trifluorochloroethylene polymer are applied to the surface of the abrasive material along with an adhesive. A method of adhesion has been proposed (Japanese Patent Publication No. 46-32912), but since fluororesin does not have good adhesion to the base material no matter what adhesive is used, it may peel off during polishing. The effect quickly disappears. Although it is possible to apply the fluororesin by dissolving it in a solvent, no practical solvent that exhibits good solubility for the fluororesin has been known to date. It is also possible to melt and attach fluororesin, but since it has a relatively high melting point (32,700 for tetrafluoroethylene polymer), the base material often cannot withstand such high temperatures. As a result of repeated research on various compounds, the inventors have discovered a fluorine compound that has a barfluoroalkyl group having 4 to 21 carbon atoms, contains fluorine at a ratio of 3% by weight or more, and is soluble in organic solvents. The present inventors have discovered that forming a coating on the surface of an abrasive material can have a surprising effect on preventing clogging of the abrasive material, and have completed the present invention.

A compound having such a long-chain perfluoroalkyl group exhibits good water and oil repellency, stain resistance, etc., and is therefore presumed to be effective in preventing clogging. Further, the fluorine compound used in the present invention must contain fluorine in a proportion of 3% by weight or more, preferably 4% by weight or more.

If the fluorine content is too low, the clogging prevention effect will not be sufficiently exerted, which is disadvantageous. Furthermore, it is desired that the fluorine compound used in the present invention is soluble in an organic solvent.
