In a tabletop air cleaner where the inside of the body is divided into a motor chamber and a suction chamber by a partition plate, a switch circuit is formed by connecting a pair of left and right starting switches and a safety switch in series between the motor and the dry battery to start the air cleaner. The switch is configured to short-circuit by pressing push buttons provided on both sides of the upper part of the body, and the safety switch is installed on a dowel pin that is loosely fitted in the partition plate, and the short-circuit is caused by pushing up the dowel pin. A safety mechanism for a tabletop air cleaner, characterized in that when the case is set in a suction chamber, the case is pushed up by engaging with a push-up piece formed on the front part of the case.
