Abstract

PURPOSE:To cast continuously a thin sheet having good quality by combining stationary and movable side seals to provide side sealing so that sticking of the solidified material to the side seals and the leakage of the molten metal from the sides can be prevented. CONSTITUTION:The molten metal 12 is poured into a pool 10 formed of the fixed side seals 2 and barrel seals 3 and the molten metal 12 is cooled by internally cooled rolls 1, by which a thin sheet 13 is continuously cast. The movable side seals 5 are inserted into the guide grooves 4 of the seals 2 disposed on both sides of said rolls 1 and move in the casting direction of the sheet 13 at the same speed as the casting speed. The leakage of the molten metal from the side seals 2 is thus prevented and the solidified deposits are not formed to the seals 5 and therefore the thin sheet having good quality is continuously cast.
