Abstract

PURPOSE:To allow an optical fiber to emit from its outer periphery and to attain the image form use of various control panels by providing a fluorescent material outside of the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The optical fiber 1 is coated with a luminescent material 2 obtained by adding the fluorescent material to the raw material of the optical fiber. Light traveling in the optical fiber 1 causes said coating material 2 to luminance. Almost all of incident light R1 appears as reflected light R2, but part of it is diffracted as diffracted light R3. The diffracted light R3 strikes the material 2, which emits light from the outer periphery of the optical fiber.

Optical fibers commonly used today utilize the property that most of the incident light propagates as reflected light, but there is a small amount of light that is transmitted without being reflected. Conventionally, this transmitted light was not utilized and resulted in loss.

The present invention uses such light that is transmitted without being reflected to coat the outer surface of an optical fiber with a luminescent substance so that the optical fiber emits light. The present invention provides a self-luminous optical fiber characterized in that it emits light by refracting internally incident light and transmitting the outer periphery.

(bl shows its A-A cross-sectional view. 1 is a conventional optical fiber, and the outside is replaced by the outer periphery of the conventional optical fiber.
It is coated with a luminescent material 2, which is made by adding a fluorescent substance to a conventional optical fiber material, and the propagation of incident light has the same function as the conventional optical fiber.

FIG. 2 is a functional explanatory diagram of the optical fiber according to the present invention. In FIG. 2, the light passing through the optical fiber 1 emits light by passing through the light emitting agent 2 coated on the outer surface of the fiber 1. As shown in the figure, the incident light R1
Most of it becomes reflected light R2, but a part is refracted and becomes refracted light R2.
It is separated into 3 parts. This refracted light R3 collides with the light-emitting substance 2 to emit light to the outer periphery of the optical fiber. According to the self-luminous optical fiber of the present invention as described above,
The outer side of the optical fiber is a light-emitting material made by adding a fluorescent substance to the outer material of a conventional optical fiber, and the flexible fiber J- emits light to the outer periphery. It has also become possible to use it for various types of control patterns.
