Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a large perspective angle by forming a great number of thin cathodes in the inside of a surface plate for perspective and a great number of thin anodes perpendicular to them in the inside of a back plate, and further providing insulating layers in parts of the surfaces of the cathodes. CONSTITUTION:An envelope is formed by a back plate 1 and a surface plate 2 for perspective, and a great number of thin cathodes 7 arranged in the inside of the surface plate 2 in parallel are provided, in which parts of the surfaces opposing to anodes 8 are covered with insulating layers 9, and the anodes 8 perpendicular to the cathodes 7 are provided in the inside of the back plate 1 in a parallel direction, and further insulating bulkheads 10 for forming scanning spaces are provided along the anodes 8, and the a discharge tube for display is formed. And therefore only the portions in the region of both ends of the cathodes 7 are exploded to the side of the anodes 8 and it is possible to obtain a large perspective angle even if the high density is made in the electrode arrangement because the cathode glow is generated in the only exploded region in discharging, and further it is possible to enlarge the area of each electrode and to reduce the resistance value.

In a high-definition tube for displaying television images in which the number of anodes or the number of anodes arranged is two or more, not only the viewing angle θ0 becomes extremely small, but also electrode formation becomes extremely difficult. Further, when the electrode width is set to a minimum, the resistance value increases, causing variations in the glow discharge current and causing uneven brightness in the luminescent image.

Each cathode ya of the display discharge tube constructed in this way,
7b......, only the vicinity of both measuring parts are exposed to the anode side, so during discharge, cathode glow occurs only in the area shown by the broken line curve in Figure 3, and this is visible on the fluoroscopic table. Face plate 2ff: Can be viewed through a wide-angle field of view. Furthermore, there is an advantage that not only can the resistance value be lowered by increasing the cross-sectional area of each anode and each cathode, but also that the cathode current can be suppressed by the insulating layers ga, gb, . Note that when the thickness of the cathode is large, the width of the insulating layer can be approximated to the width of the cathode.

Effects of the Invention Since the present invention is constructed as described above, a large viewing angle can be obtained even if the electrode arrangement is made denser, and the resistance values of the cathode and anode can be kept small to allow a prescribed discharge current to flow. It is particularly effective when applied to high-definition tubes for displaying television images, etc.
