Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve oozing of silicone oil to the surface of a heat fixing roll and to extend the life of said roll by using the silicone rubber obtd. by curring a crude rubber compsn. contg. silicone oil and pulverous powder silica. CONSTITUTION:A crude rubber compsn. is prepd. by mixing 10-20wt% pulverous powder silica with (A) silicone rubber (e.g.; dimethyl polysiloxane, methyl phenyl vinyl polysiloxane), (B) silicone oil (e.g.; dimethyl silicone oil, methyl phenyl silicone oil) and (C) silicone oil. Such crude rubber compsn. is coated on a roll base body made of a stainless steel, aluminum, etc. and is cured to form a silicone rubber surface layer contg. the pulverous powder silica absorbing the silicone oil on the roll base body by which the intended silicone rubber for the heat fixing roll is obtd.

A device for heating and fixing powder toner in electronic copying technology is a mechanism for fixing toner by passing paper or other recording medium containing unfixed toner between at least two rolls. This fixing device uses less power than other fixing devices and has the advantage of being able to be made smaller.

As a countermeasure to this problem, a method has been adopted in which room-temperature curing silicone rubber is impregnated with a large amount of oil in advance (Japanese Unexamined Patent Publications No. 48-62436, No. 52-131730).
(see publication). Room temperature curing silicone rubber containing so-called cyclic siloxane is used for this purpose. In this method, when silicone oil comes out, the mold releasability deteriorates rapidly, offset occurs, and the product life ends. Room-temperature-curing silicone rubber that contains a large amount of oil has rubber properties that do not satisfy the roll conditions, and in order to satisfy basic properties such as thermal deformation, compression set, and rubber hardness, there is an upper limit to the amount of oil that can be added. was there. Also, if the surface is made of silicone rubber, whether it is a heating roll or a backup roll,
Since they are used at a high temperature of 1,500 to 200 C, oil components seep out quickly onto the surface, causing a shortened lifespan.

A rubber surface layer was formed on the substrate. The rubber thickness is 3 m. A fixing test was conducted using this rubber roll in combination with a stainless steel roll as a heat fixing roll. Apply rubber pressure to both ends (length 30cm) and apply a load of 30cm to each end.
The occurrence of offset was tested through 75 μm thick paper with unfused toner. Continuous fixing was performed at a speed of 20 cm/sec using a roll paper (length ioom) with 20 cm in the paper. Heating is done using a heater inside the roll.
The roll surface temperature was automatically controlled to be 150C.

Example 2 Methylhinyl was added to the silicone rubber composition used in Example 1.
A rubber roll was prepared with a composition in which 50 parts of fluorolisiloxane (mole ratio of 10% methylvinylsiloxane to 99% dimethylsiloxane) was further added, and the same test was conducted. After fixing 1020 paper rolls, offset was observed. In this case as well, it was found that the lifespan was five times longer than that of the comparative example product with 200 rolls.
