Abstract

PURPOSE:To display the result of recognition by displaying a character in a form in response to the kind of character to discriminate easily a different character of same form. CONSTITUTION:A character described in a form DC is formed into a video signal via a scanning section 1, a feature is extracted at a recognition section 3, the feature is collated with the feature of each character of a dictionary section 2 and then the character is recognized. In this case, plural characters are selected with the order in response to the similarity of the feature and the corresponding character code is fed to a character type decision section 5 and the kind of character is decided by using a dictionary section 4. Then the character kind and a character code are stored in a memory 6. A control section 7 converts the character code of the memory 6 into a character pattern, which is displayed on a display section and the character type is converted into a corresponding identification signal, which is displayed under the corresponding character.

[Detailed Description of the Invention] [Technical Field of the Invention] The present invention relates to a multi-character recognition device that recognizes multi-character types, and in particular is capable of displaying recognition results so that same-type and different characters can be easily distinguished. Character recognition devices (hereinafter referred to as OCR) are widely used to convert characters written by humans into computer input codes. Since OCR reads and recognizes the characters written by humans, it is less troublesome and convenient than other input methods such as manual input. However, since the characters written by humans are not the same for each person, various It is necessary to employ complex techniques to recognize characters. In recent years, these recognition technologies have made great progress, expanding the types of characters that can be recognized from numbers to katakana, hiragana, and even kanji.

With the recent development of recognition technology, the accuracy of discrimination between the same character types (katakana, hiragana, and kanji) has greatly improved, and OCR dedicated to these single character types is now in practical use. On the other hand, multi-character OCR that combines these single character types has also been developed, and, for example, Japanese OCR that recognizes Japanese including Kanji has also been put into practical use. In such multi-character type OCR, there is a problem of isomorphic and different characters that does not exist in a single character type. For example, the kanji ``工'' (in Japanese) and the katakana ``工'' have the same shape or are different characters. ``shi'' and the alphabet ``
There are "L" etc. Therefore, if such homomorphic and different characters exist, the recognition result will be determined to be the closest one, so even if recognition accuracy is improved, recognition errors cannot be avoided. Generally, in OCR, the operator checks the recognition results,
In order to correct erroneously recognized characters, the characters resulting from the recognition are displayed on the display device. That is, Fig. 1 (A
) The results of reading and recognizing the characters on the form as shown in
Is it displayed on the screen of the display device as shown in Figure (B)?
In the example of the characters in Figure (B), it is not possible to determine whether the characters ``工'' and ``え'' were correctly recognized as the kanji ``工'' and the hiragana ``え''.
Even if katakana ``工'' and katakana ``he'' are recognized, they cannot be distinguished from the display alone. Similarly, even if "shi" in Hiragana is recognized as the letter "L" in the alphabet as shown in FIG. 1(B), there is a risk that it will be overlooked. Therefore, in conventional OCR, there is a problem in that even if the recognition result is displayed, it cannot be corrected in the case of characters of the same type or characters of similar type.

This image signal is input to the recognition section 3, developed in a feature space, features are extracted, and compared with the features of each character in the recognition dictionary section 2 to recognize the characters. In this case, the character with the closest characteristic is selected, and the character code is not limited to just one, but a plurality of characters are ranked and selected according to the degree of similarity of the characteristics, and the character code thereof is output. This character code is sent to the character type determination section 5, and the character type is determined using the character type determination dictionary section 4.

Since the character code is determined to have a specific range for each character type, the character type of the character code is determined depending on which character type range (between the maximum value and the minimum value) the character code falls within. This character code and character type are stored in the memory 6.

The display control section 7 converts the character code stored in the memory 6 into a character pattern, and displays it on the display section 8. On the other hand, the character type stored in the memory 6 is converted into a corresponding identification symbol by the display control section 7, and displayed below the character as shown in FIG. In the example shown in FIG. 3, dots are used as identification symbols, and kanji are displayed with no dots, katakana with one dot, hiragana with two dots, and alphabets with three dots. In addition, kanji are not displayed, katakana is "power",
Hiragana is “hi”.

The example in Figure 3 displays the recognition results for the characters written on the form in Figure 1 (A), and the second character ``工'' is a kanji character, but the recognized characters are not. The fourth character "E" indicates that the entered character is Hiragana, but the recognized character is Katakana, and the seventh character "L" indicates that the entered character is Hiragana "shi". However, it shows that the recognized character is the alphabet "L".

Since the character types are displayed in this way, the operator can judge the recognition result based on both the recognized character and the character type, making it easier to detect erroneous recognition of homomorphic and different characters. The operator looks at the display on the display section 8 and uses the keyboard 9 to correct the misrecognized characters. That is, the user moves the cursor using the keyboard 9, specifies the misrecognized character, causes the memory 6 to change the next candidate character to the first-ranked character, and uses the display control unit 7 to select the character that has been misrecognized. Two character types of the next ranking are displayed in place of the characters of the first ranking, and the judgment is made again.

In general, for these isomorphic characters and extremely low-type characters, the recognition unit 3 extracts at least two or more characters as candidates, so in most cases, the correct result is obtained by changing the rankings like this. Can be edited into text. Keyboard 9 is numbers, Hiragana.

As described above, according to the present invention, there is provided a character recognition determination unit that recognizes a character from an input image signal and outputs the recognized character code and the character type of the character, and a The present invention is characterized in that it has a display section that displays characters, and displays the characters on the display section in a display form that corresponds to the character type, so that when recognizing multi-character types,
This has the effect that it is possible to correctly determine whether the recognition result displayed on the display unit is the operator, and it is possible to avoid erroneous corrections or forgetting corrections by the operator. In addition, since the operator can distinguish the recognition result from both the character and its character type, it has the effect of greatly improving the correction accuracy of multi-character recognition equipment, especially when there are homologous and different characters. It is possible to input multi-character types such as Japanese without adding any functions, and it is also possible to correct homomorphic and different characters that cannot be identified even with the addition of a sentence judgment function. can be provided at low cost and in a small size, which greatly contributes to the spread of such character recognition devices and the simplification of text input.
