Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a bent part of a strip-shaped glass plate from becoming of heavy thickness and to obtain high reliability of product suited for spacer frame of a fluorescent character display tube, etc. by bending a strip-shaped glass with its heated side placed inside. CONSTITUTION:After softening a part of a strip-shaped glass plate 1 to be bent by heating with a gas torch 2, the gas torch 2 is moved away toward a position not inhibiting the bending work. Then, immediately, an end of the glass piece is pushed toward the position where the gas torch 2 has been placed. By this procedure, the thickness of the bent part is not reduced but is rather increased, and the softened part is bulged out toward the inside of the thickness direction, and is also projected toward the height direction of the spacer. By pressing the projected part toward the height direction to make it flat by quickly pressing jigs 3 almost simultaneously from above and below before the bent part is hardened by cooling, and a desirable frame for a spacer glass is obtd.

(2) Prior Art It is known to bend a rod-shaped glass such as a long and thin band-shaped plate glass into a frame shape and use it as a spacer between the upper and lower substrates of a flat fluorescent display tube. For this spacer, the lip is processed and the bent part is heated and softened with a gas torch and then bent. If the glass piece is bent in the direction, the bending of the glass piece will reduce the wall thickness at the part, which is undesirable from a reliability point of view because the leak path will be shortened when used as a spacer for fluorescent display tubes that require high vacuum. .

(31 Purpose of the Invention) An object of the present invention is to provide a method for bending rod-shaped glass that prevents thinning of the bending portion, and is particularly suitable for bending spacers such as fluorescent display tubes. The purpose of the V-bending of the glass strip through which it is passed is to provide a forming method.

(41 Structure and operation of the invention) According to the present invention, the glass rod is heated from one side and then bent in a softened state so that the one side of the glass rod becomes inside. A molding method is obtained.

In particular, according to the present invention, after the above-mentioned bending, and before the folded portion softens, the bent portion is pressed from the vertical direction substantially perpendicular to the folding plane to flatten the protrusion that has formed on the bent portion. A method for forming a glass frame for a spacer is also obtained.

FIG. 2 (b) is a perspective view illustrating the method of bending a band-shaped glass plate l according to the present invention. After softening the portion to be bent by heating with a gas torch 2, a gas torch 2 is used to bend the glass plate l. Move it out of the way, and quickly push one end 11 of the glass strip toward the place where the gas torch 2 rests. This process allows the second
As shown in figure (b), the wall thickness of the V-bend is made thinner.
Rather, it becomes thicker. That is, the softened portion protrudes inward in the thickness direction and also forms a protrusion in the height direction as a spacer. Therefore, when used as a spacer, it is unsuitable as it is. Therefore, in the present invention, as an additional step, as shown in Fig. 3, the part that protrudes in the height direction is bent by quickly pressing the jig 3 and 11 from above and below at the same time before the part hardens to flatten it. By doing so, a glass frame for a spacer which is preferable as a spacer can be obtained.

It goes without saying that the glass rod to which the present invention is applied is not limited to the illustrated band-shaped glass plate.

FIGS. 4 fa), (b), and (c) are schematic plan views illustrating an embodiment of the bending process when forming a spacer frame. As shown in Fig. 4(a)K, two parts of the glass piece l are heated at the same time with a gas torch, and the two parts are bent almost simultaneously so that they are on the heating side or inside (Fig. 4(b)), and After going through the process of crushing the protrusion of the bent part, the
As shown in Figure 4, the third fold is made by heating the part from the inside, and as shown in Figure 4 fcl, the part is bent again so that the heated side is inward, and the bending crushes the protrusion of the part. As shown in Figure 4(c), both ends of the bent frame-shaped spacer may be left with a gap for attaching the exhaust pipe, or both ends may be heat-fused as necessary. do not have.

(5) Effects As mentioned above, we were able to prevent the bent portion from becoming thinner by simply pressing the entire inside of the heated side of the glass strip and bending it, so it can be used as a frame for spacers such as fluorescent display tubes. We can provide reliable products.

In addition, folding with the heating side inward means that you can intentionally bend it toward the side where the gas torch is located, and this is possible because we recognized the problem that in the conventional method mentioned above, bending would result in thinner parts. This is something that has been obtained, and has effects that could not be predicted from the conventional technology.
