Abstract

PURPOSE:To form easily the meshed part of the welded end part by forming the part near the end part of a metallic strip to be welded to a crest shape over the entire width thereof by a revolving roller for plastic deformation then cutting the end part by a revolving roller for shearing. CONSTITUTION:A frame 11 is moved parallel in a welding direction to bring a revolving roller 12 for plastic deformation and a receiving roller 14 into storage press contact with a metallic strip 1, by which the crest shape of the roller 12 is formed to the end of said strip. The unnecessary part 1a is thereafter sheared and removed by a succeeding revolving roller 13 for shearing and an auxiliary revolving roller 15 for shearing. On the other hand, the roller 12 and the roller 13 come to the underside of the frame 11 and the roller 14 and the roller 15 come to the top side of the frame 11 to form a crest shape 10 on the bottom surface of the strip 2 in the case of providing the crest shape to a metallic strip 2. The crest shape 9 formed at the rear end of the preceding strip 1 and the crest shape 10 formed at the front end of the succeeding strip 2 are meshed with each other and both parts are welded.

Among the welding machines for connecting metal strips used in continuous processing lines for metal strips, welding machines used in cold rolling equipment in particular:
Since a large mechanical force is applied to the weld during processing, consideration must be given to increasing the strength of the weld so that the weld can sufficiently withstand the force.

Currently, narrow lap seam welding equipment is said to be the most suitable welding machine. However, even this welding device is not completely secure against breakage. As a countermeasure against this problem, it has been considered to shape and weld the ends of the metal strips to be pre-welded so that they mesh with each other before welding. The object of the present invention is to provide a method and apparatus that can easily form the meshing part of the welded part.

As shown in FIG. 2, the vicinity of the rear end of the leading metal band 1 is clamped by clamping devices 3a, 3b, and the vicinity of the leading end of the trailing metal band 2 is clamped by clamping devices 4a, -4b. A problem with this welding method is that the connection surface becomes inclined during pressure processing. For this reason, if strong pressure is applied, a component of the pressure force acts on the metal band in the front-rear direction, and although the metal band may be buckled or clamped, if the force increases, it will slip and move in the X direction. There is. As the pressure rollers 7a and 7b roll in the width direction of the plate, the welded portion gradually separates, resulting in poor welding. This tendency shows that as the plate thickness T increases, the pressurizing force increases at a greater rate than the strength against buckling, and welding defects tend to increase.

In view of the above, a method has been considered in which, as shown in FIG. 8, the ends of the metal strips are formed in advance into chevrons 9 and 10 so as to interlock with each other before welding. With this method, the pressurizing force is extremely small compared to conventional methods, and because the chevrons engage with each other, the front and rear component forces are almost completely eliminated, and there is no escape of the metal strip from the front and rear, making it possible to perform highly reliable welding. That's why.

In addition, this forming process can be performed at the same time as shearing the metal strip, so there is no time loss compared to conventional methods, and the thickness of the plate at the shearing part is significantly reduced, making it easier for the shearing rollers and auxiliary rollers to escape. Since there is less friction and accurate shearing is possible, the reliability of welding is further improved.
