In a magnetic tape cassette that has an opening for inserting a magnetic head in the front of the cassette case in which a pair of hubs wrapped with magnetic tape are built-in, a cassette is provided behind the opening and on both left and right walls of the cassette case. A force cut case equipped with a slide groove formed along the front and back direction of the case and a roughly arcuate guide groove provided to intersect the slide groove at the center, and left and right end pieces each having a substantially U-shaped vertical cross section. A first support shaft and a second support shaft that engage with the slide groove and the guide groove are arranged at intervals from each other on a flat line in the front-rear direction of the cassette, and are provided so as to be openable and closable in the vertical direction. The cassette is further characterized in that the entire cassette is symmetrical in front and back, comprising a guard panel that completely closes the opening when the cassette is moved, and an elastic member that is hooked to the guard panel and urges the guard panel in the closing direction.
