Abstract

PURPOSE:To shorten the copy time by reading and writing plural pieces of record information from plural heads to plural records having identical cylinder and record number by means of a start instruction to the own system disc. CONSTITUTION:An SIO instruction 4 for disc read by plural heads (HH=1-l) is transmitted to a channel 2 from a central controller 1. After the reception of device end representing the end of read command start to each head, the channel 2 transmits read commands 15-17 to each head to a disc controller. Data of HH=1-l are transferred to a main memory via a disc controller buffer memory independently by using the read command. Then the data is written in l-set of records till HH=1-l having the identical cylinder and record number according to the command sequence similar to that at read.

Conventionally, in a disk duplication system, when copying the contents of the own disk to the Ito disk, the CCHHR (shilling number, head number, record number) specified Lou code information was read out with a boot command to the own disk. , the information read last time was written to the code specified by the CCHHR by issuing a command to another thread disk. Therefore, during disk copying, the number of accesses to the disk is twice the total number of records on the disk (for reading and writing), which has the disadvantage that disk copying takes too much time.

This method reduces the time required for disk copying by simultaneously writing code information from multiple heads to corresponding records in response to a start command to the disk.

FIG. 2 is a read-side command sequence diagram for temporary disk copying. The operation during disk copying will be described below based on FIG. First, from the central controller 1, S is used for disk reading by multiple heads CHH=1 to l).
Send IO command 4 to channel 2. Channel 2 sends a seek command 5 for the cylinder surface to the disk controller. 6 and 7 are a device end and a channel end indicating completion of the seek command activation. At the time of sealing i1 against the cylinder surface, the device end 8 is returned to the channel 2. Next, channel 2 sends read commands 9 to 11 of HH=i to l to the disk controller.
Send out. 12 to 14 are device ends indicating completion of activation of these read commands. After receiving the device end for each head, channel 2 sends read commands 15-17 for each head to the disk controller. By these read commands, the data of HH-1 to HH-1 is independently transferred to the main memory via the disk controller backup memory. At the end of data transfer, each device end 18 independently
~20 is also sent back to channel 2 by disk controller 3. After receiving all device ends 18-2 degrees of HH-1-1, channel 2 returns the channel ends to the central controller.

By the above operation, one record with the same cylinder number and the same record number H, H (head number) = 1 to 1 can be read out to the main memory. These one record information is sent to HH=1 to 1 with the same cylinder number and same record number according to the same command sequence as on the read side (however, 15 to 17 are write commands in Figure 2). Write to records. Disk copying can be performed by repeating the above read/write operations.
